#73: THE LOCH-NESS MONSTER What the hell is The Loch Ness Monster? A dinosaur that beat the extinction rap? A big ass snake? A seal? A well endowed Scotsman who likes to backstroke? We may never know for sure, but it sure is fun to wonder. With hundreds of supposed sightings dating back to 1871 (look at these), it's evident that people who visit the Loch think that something is there. Whatever it is, as long as it attracts tourists, it's sure to stay. A friend of mine who visits Scotland lately pointed out that there's ususally a "major sighting" by one of the locals right before the tourist season begins. Mighty convenient, wouldn't you say? You'd think with all the modern technology we have available that we'd know for sure what's in there, but Loch Ness is so deep and murky that visibility is usually restricted to about 4 inches, due to the massive amounts of peat floating in it.
