Maurice Manning scored 26 points to lead Suffolk County CC
(N.Y.) to a 93-72 victory over Caldwell Community College (N.C.) in a national
semifinal at the 2004 NJCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at SUNY Delhi.
Suffolk won its 51st consecutive game and will look to claim
its second straight national championship at 8 p.m. Saturday at Delhi's Farrell
Hall Gymnasium. Suffolk went on a 10-0 run eight minutes into the game to
snap a 16-16 tie. The Clippers weren't threatened the rest of the way and
opened up a 30 point lead, 80-50, with just under eight minutes left in the
game.
Marcus Perry (17 points) had four points and Chris Whitson had
a basket to cut the lead to 22 points, 80-58, but Caldwell would get no closer
than 18 points the rest of the way.
Aaron Cummings had 15 points for Suffolk (33-0). Dave Maldonado
had 12 points and Marcele Street had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Suffolk.
Suffolk advances to its second straight championship game at
8 p.m. Saturday. Zeke Mayes and Tyler Dellinger each had 11 points for Caldwell
(27-5). Caldwell will play at 6 p.m. Saturday for third place.
