USS NEW YORK CITY was the ninth Los Angeles Class Attack Submarine: Laid down, 15 December 1973, at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corp., Groton, CT.; Launched, 18 June 1977; Commissioned, USS New York City (SSN-696), 3 March 1979. Homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI. Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register, 30 April 1997; Final Disposition, in storage at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard awaiting disposal through the NPSSRP (Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA.

A Los Angeles Class submarine pushes a tremendous bow wake when traveling on

the surface at high speed. This submarine, built to travel more efficiently when

completely submerged, is working its way up to its full speed while passing a sloop.
