Nicole (DePalo) Gregory
Van needed for Bellport High
alumna
Nicole (DePalo) Gregory, raised in East Patchogue and a
1994 graduate of Bellport High School,
is a beautiful, 38-year-old woman whose life changed drastically on Nov. 7,
2004,
when she suffered an extraordinarily rare fibrocartilaginous disc emboli
(spinal artery stroke),
which left her paralyzed from the neck down and ventilator-dependent.
A registered dietitian, and married only a year and a half at the time of
this catastrophic event,
she and her husband Randy — who has remained by her side and is her primary
caregiver —
continue their life struggle with health complications, financial issues,
nursing care, etc.
Nicole is the daughter of Michele and Nick DePalo of East Patchogue, long-time
and active members of the South Country community.
Friends of Nicole Gregory was established to help raise funds for a new van
for Nicole
to replace the well-worn and unreliable 10-year-old vehicle used now to
transport her.
The cost of a handicapped-accessible van is in the neighborhood of $50,000.
