On Christmas Eve, a Patchogue Chamber
of Commerce delegation visited the Henry
Bramwell home on Schoenfeld Boulevard,
Patchogue, to present a certificate for a
1970-model Ford won by Mrs. Bramwell
in Patchogue Merchants’ annual Christmas
shopping promotion. Another Shoppers
Bonus award — a trip for two to Europe
via Icelandic Airlines — was won by Nioma
Herzog of Center Moriches.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Pallas of Everett
Street announce the engagement of their
daughter, Laurel, to C. James Meyer, son
of Mrs. Cornelius J. Meyer and the late Rev.
Cornelius J. Meyer of Altamont, N.Y. Miss
Pallas is studying for a master’s in library
science at the State University of New
York at Albany. Mr. Meyer is also attending
SUNY at Albany and upon graduation plans
to continue his studies for a master’s in
architecture. No date has been set for the wedding.
Okinawa service is being experienced
by Marine lance corporal Michael A. Rus-
sell of Patchogue. He is serving at the
Marine Corps Base, Camp Smedley D.
Butler, which provides training facilities,
logistic and administrative support for the
Okinawa units.
The Navy Achievement medal with Com-
bat V has been earned by Navy photogra-
pher intelligenceman 3/c Peter Nicoletti,
whose wife is the former Miss Kathleen
B. Long of Patchogue, during ceremonies
held at the Naval Air Station, North Island, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gallo Jr., of Zipp
Avenue, East Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Karen, to
Charles Maragioglio, son of Mrs. Jean Mar-
agioglio of Bellport Street, East Patchogue.
Miss Gallo, a 1967 graduate of Mercy High
School, Riverhead, attended Mercyhurst
College, Erie, Pa. She is employed at
BOCES, Patchogue. Mr. Maragioglio grad-
uated in 1966 from Bellport High School
and attended Suffolk County Community
College, Selden. He is self-employed as a
mason contractor.
Specialist 5 Peter Simmons of Bellport
is home from Fort Gulick in the Panama
Canal Zone for a two-week leave with his family.
Gregory Corn, son of Dr. and Mrs. Rob-
ert Corn of Cedar Bluff Road, has taken a
two-week trip to Europe with his uncle and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lester D. Arstark of Old
Jericho. They will stop in France, Belgium
and Holland. On Dec. 14 Gregory won two
blue ribbons in the novice class at the
Horse Show at Equitation Lodge.
A surprise bridal shower was given for
Miss Alison Rand and George Carleton
Dec. 23 by Mrs. Robert Enkey and Mrs. Wil-
lard French at the latter’s home on Acade-
my Lane. About 15 couples were present.
Dr. and Mrs. R. Ronald Rau and daugh-
ters, Whitney and Littie of South Howells
Point Road, spent last week skiing at Sugar
Loaf Mountain in Maine.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Horton of Blue
Point Avenue, Blue Point, entertained
friends at an open house party Christmas Eve.
Gary Roscott, home from Brown Uni-
versity, is spending the Christmas vacation
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Roscott
of Division Avenue.
Mrs. Henry Aug of Paumanake Road has
received word from her son, Capt. John
Henry Aug, who is stationed in Saigon, that
he has been awarded the Bronze Star. He
is due back in the States Jan. 20 and he and
his wife, Joan, are planning a Caribbean
cruise before he reports to Baltimore, Md.
for further training.
Blue Point Lions Club president Joseph
Fedelem of Maple Street is having a new
plaque made up for the Honor Roll in front
of the Blue Point Library. Anyone who
knows of a serviceman whose name is not
on the list of names, please contact Mr.
Fedelem or Bob Brown.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Christopherson of
Southaven Avenue, Medford, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Lynn Rae,
to Richard James Oppedisano, son of Mr.
and Mrs. James Oppedisano of Oak Ave-
nue, Shirley. No date has been set for the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. George Ruse of Robinson
Avenue celebrated their wedding anniver-
sary on Thursday. The Ruses have four
children: George, Debbie, Charles and Kathy.
At Camp Lejeune, N.C., Marine Private
Ronald Guy of Shirley has completed
the basic warehousing course at Supply
School. It was an on-the-job program in the
supply specialties of the Marines.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Howland cele-
brated with 140 guests at Felice’s of Pat-
chogue following their wedding ceremony
Nov. 30 in St. Jude’s R.C. Church, Mastic
Beach. The bride is the former Miss Denise
Vecchio of Mastic Beach. She and her hus-
band, after a trip to the Poconos, traveled
to Fort Carson, Colo., Army Base, where he
will complete his tour of duty in June.

Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jastrow of Maple
Avenue, Patchogue, who were in Canton,
Ohio the evening of Dec. 27 for the com-
ing marriage of their son, Robert Edward,
to Miss Bernice Jean Warren of Canton,
following the wedding rehearsal gave a
dinner, which was held at Dick Logan’s
in Canton.
Enjoying their wedding reception at
Tojen’s restaurant, Patchogue, were Mr.
and Mrs. Carl A. Dippel Jr., after their wed-
ding ceremony Dec. 28 at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel R.C. Church. The bride, the former
Miss Cheryl Ann Dietz of Patchogue, is
attending Dowling College, Oakdale. The
bridegroom is a teacher of earth science
at Sayville High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Carmine S. D’Aniello of
Patchogue announce the engagement of
their daughter, Lucille, to Airman 1/c John
E. Gifford, son of Mr. and Mrs. May-
nard Gifford of Orono, Me. Miss D’Aniello
is a graduate of Patchogue Senior High
School. She is a secretary at the Suffolk
County Air Force Base, Westhampton
Beach. Airman Gifford is attached to the
Weather Squadron at the base. He has
been reassigned to the South Dakota base.
The wedding is set for July 4.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mahoney and chil-
dren, Robbie and Karen, of Bieselin Road,
Bellport, attended the “Nutcracker Suite”
at the New York State Theatre at Lincoln
Center Friday. They had dinner at The Cattleman.
Larry Potter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Har-
mon Potter of Rogers Avenue, flew to
England last week. He is in charge of a
student group that is traveling abroad for
the month of January. A senior at Tufts
College, Larry will resume his studies
there in February.
Sgt. Warren Maas has returned to Lack-
land Air Force Base, Texas, after spending
the holidays with his family at Country
Club Road. He is serving with the Air Force
band and is frequently a guest trumpeter
with the Trinity University Orchestra. Sgt.
Maas is studying with Steven Weger of the
San Antonio Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter DiDio of Head of the
Neck Road entertained at a family party
in celebration of their son, Peter Jr., who
was 2 years old Dec. 30.
Mrs. Constance Bohn and daughter Sal-
ly of South Country Road returned Friday
from a two-weeks’ cruise in the Caribbean
aboard the SS Nieuw Amsterdam. They
made several stops, including Curacao, St.
Maarten and St. Thomas.
Miss Laura Demarest, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Calvin Demarest of Bieselin
Road, flew to Rome on Friday for a four-
week stay in Italy, where she will be
studying art and architecture, as part of an
independent study program sponsored by
Bucknell University.
The Islanders Club had a reunion lun-
cheon in Patchogue Dec. 30. Attending
were Mesdames Irving Coleman, Law-
rence Bieselin, John Derby, Henry Noeh-
ren, Charles Mengler, Peter Quinn and
Joseph Nolan. Mrs. Robert Fuchs was
unable to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Werner and family
of General McLean Drive returned Satur-
day from a weeks’ skiing trip at Narrowsburg.
Mary Jo Alburger, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. David Alburger of Beaver Dam Road,
Brookhaven, entertained by giving an
informal party for her friends on New
Year’s Eve. Mary Jo left last weekend for
Colby College, Waterville, Me., where she
is a sophomore.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Horton of Blue
Point Avenue, Blue Point, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Cathleen,
to Thomas Loper, son of Mrs. Howard
Loper of Center Moriches and the late Mr.
Loper. Miss Horton is a graduate of James
Wilson Young High School, Bayport, and
attended Suffolk County Community Col-
lege. She is employed as a dental assistant
with Dr. R. Gary Dennison of Blue Point.
Mr. Loper is vice president of the student
association at the State University Col-
lege, Oneonta, N.Y., majoring in political
science. He is also a U.S. Navy pilot.
Loretta Anne Palmquist, daughter of
Mrs. Rita Palmquist of Norwood Drive,
Blue Point, celebrated her 11th birthday
Saturday with a party for her friends.
Mrs. Albert Bugala and children and
Mrs. Madeline Grosso and children, all of
Mt. Vernon Avenue, Medford, motored to
New York City Friday to view the Christ-
mas Show held at Radio City Music Hall.

A birthday party was held Jan. 4 at her
home for Kelly Jaeger, daughter of Mrs.
Lucille Jaeger of Harrison Street, Pat-
chogue. Kelly was 4 years old Jan. 5. Her
guests were Andy Graves, Gregg Gates,
Paul Riley, April and Nancy Hamilton,
Tina Spalding, and her sister, Tracy.
Mr. and Mrs. William McFarlane and
children, Paul and Dianne, of West
Woodside Avenue, have returned home
after spending the Christmas holidays at
Treasure Island, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Fleury of
Thorne Street became the parents of a
son born Tuesday in Brookhaven Memo-
rial Hospital, East Patchogue. His arrival
was on the birthday of his maternal
grandmother, Mrs. William Jenkins of Rider Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Read of South
Ocean Avenue announce the engage-
ment of their daughter, Mary Berna-
dette, to midshipman Patrick H. Law-
less, son of Mrs. Mary Lawless and the
late Hubert K. Lawless of Upper Darby,
Pa. Miss Read is a graduate of Seton Hall
High School and is employed as a practi-
cal registered nurse at Abington Memo-
rial Hospital, Abington, Pa. Midshipman
Lawless is a senior at the U.S. Naval
Academy. A June wedding at Annapolis is planned.
Serving aboard the aircraft carrier
USS Midway is Navy radarman seaman
Richard C. Chiappone of Patchogue. He
is now homeported at Alameda, Calif.,
since the Midway is scheduled to be
recommissioned in San Francisco as of this month.
Firefighters from Hagerman and
Bellport fire departments battled for
approximately four hours to extinguish
a fire which extensively damaged the
two-story frame house of Mr. and Mrs.
Ferdinand Zoeller at 132 South Country
Road, East Patchogue, Tuesday after-
noon. Two women were inside the build-
ing when the fire started, but were
evacuated by employees of an electrical
contractor who was working in the area.
One of the women, Mrs. Jenevieve E.
Guthke, 73, is blind and suffered cuts
and injured her arm when she fell com-
ing out of the house. She was treated
at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and
released the same day.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lockwood and fam-
ily of General McLean Drive, Bellport,
spent Sunday in Stamford, Conn., visit-
ing Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Hook.

A meeting of the Rosary Altar Society
of Mary Immaculate R.C. Church was
held Jan. 6. Plans were made for the
coming year. The first big event will be
the annual St. Patrick’s dance to be held
March 14 in the church auditorium. Mrs.
Francis Miller is heading the affair. Mrs.
Henry Noehren was given an award and
refreshments were served by hostesses
Mrs. Charles Mengler and Mrs. Noehren.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Faison
Jr. of Country Greens Drive celebrat-
ed their birthdays on Saturday with a
skating party for the girls and a slumber
party for the boys. Fay celebrated her
12th birthday and her brother Kevin cel-
ebrated his 9th.
Diane Diecedue, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Anthony Diecedue of George Court,
celebrated her 10th birthday Saturday
with a supper party at her home. Ten
girls, as well as members of the family,
were present. Mr. Diecedue has returned
from a sales meeting of the Wolverine
Shoe Corporation held at the Statler-Hil-
ton in Baltimore, Md., over the weekend.
Mayor and Mrs. Harry F. Bedell of
Country Club Road returned home Sun-
day from a trip to Mesa, Ariz., where
they visited the mayor’s aunt, Mrs. Ray-
mond Graham. While there, they took
trips to Buena Park and Long Beach,
Calif., where mayor Bedell was sta-
tioned during World War II.
Mr. and Mrs. George Warnken and
children, Gayle and Kathy, have returned
from a two-week trip to Fort Salerno,
Fla., where they visited Mrs. Warnken’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Slater, her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. William
Howe, and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jud
Westgate, all former residents of Blue Point.
A dinner and birthday cake honor-
ing Howard Johnson on his 50th year
with the Center Moriches Fire Depart-
ment was held Jan. 5 at the firehouse.
Mr. Johnson was presented with an
AM-FM radio by members of his compa-
ny, Engine Company No. 3.
Married Saturday in St. Jude’s R.C.
Church, Mastic Beach, were Mr. and
Mrs. Charles R.D. Bowers. The couple,
currently on their two-week wedding
trip, will make their home in Bohemia.
Mrs. Bowers is the former Miss Mary
Theresa Castiglia of Shirley.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Heller of Center
Street, Patchogue, have received word
of the birth of a granddaughter, born
Saturday to their son and daughterin-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Heller of Cold
Spring Harbor. Dennis Heller is a former
resident of Patchogue.
The Church Council for 1970 at Emanuel
Lutheran Church, to be installed at
the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, are Jim
Decker, Russ Dietz, Joe Lomicky, Walt Mairs,
Stu Jones, Tony McDonnell, Gus Paxson, Ray
Rueger and Dave Rutkowsky.
Like the old saying goes, “So near,
but yet so far,” Patchogue came within
one point, but dropped a 68-67 thriller
against a tough Central Islip basketball
team. The game played last Friday night
marked the first home night game in the
high school gym in two years. Previously
Patchogue had played their games at
Bay Avenue Elementary School. Captain
Ted Kalivas had the whole team eat
dinner at his home the night before
in hopes of regaining the confidence
which they had lost by dropping their
first four games. The team returned to
school with a stomach full of roast beef
and plenty of spirit. It almost did the trick.
A promotion to his present rank has
been given Sgt. Andrew T. Kalinowski of
Patchogue. He is a personnel specialist
at Tan Son Nhut AB, Vietnam.
Serving at the Naval Air Station,
Kingsville, Texas, is Navy aviation electrician’s
mate Airman Edwin A. Becht Jr., of
Patchogue. His is a station that provides
student pilots with their final phase of
jet aviation training.
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Mott of Log Road
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Kathy, to John Maloney, son of
Mrs. Mary Maloney of Harris Street. Miss
Mott and Mr. Maloney are both 1965
graduates of Patchogue High School
and both are in the employ of the New
York Telephone Company. Mr. Maloney
in March completed a three-year tour
of duty in the Marine Corps, one year
in Vietnam. No date has been set for the wedding.
The 7th birthday of Pam Backes,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Backes
of Hedges Road, East Patchogue, was
celebrated Jan. 10 with a party attended
by 20 friends. That evening, Mr. and Mrs.
James Stafetes of East Patchogue and Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Backes of Bellport, grandparents
of Pam, helped to celebrate the
birthday of Joseph Backes.
A bridal shower was given for Miss
Sharon Vettel the afternoon of Jan. 11
at her home on Country Club Road,
Bellport, by her sister, Miss Judith Vettel,
who will be her maid of honor, and her
bridesmaids-to-be, Mrs. Dominick Mannino
and Miss Joanne Solowey. Many lovely
gifts were received by the bride-to-be
from the 35 friends and relatives who
attended. Miss Vettel will be married
Feb. 14 in St. Joseph the Worker R.C.
Church, East Patchogue, to Pasquale
Cetrangola of East Patchogue.
Mrs. Charles Kerr recently sold her
house on North Brewster Lane to Miss
Phyllis Wayte of Amityville.
Mr. and Mrs. Irving Coleman Jr. and family
of Circuit Road attended the 1970
Ice Capades at Madison Square Garden Saturday.
Happy couple are Mr. and Mrs. James A.
Pidgeon Jr., who were married Sunday
in St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church,
East Patchogue. The bridegroom and
his bride, the former Miss Cheryl Lynn Frak
of Bellport, are enjoying a wedding trip
in the Bahamas. They will live in Mastic
Beach.

Melodie Lynn Gilman, infant daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gilman of Patchogue,
was christened Sunday in St.
Paul’s Episcopal Church. Godparents
were Mr. and Mrs. John Coleman of Patchogue.
Following the church service,
a combination christening and housewarming
was held at the Coleman’s new
home on Grove Avenue for relatives and
friends.
Miss Cynthia Sbani, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jacinto Sbani of Liberty
Street, was guest of honor at a bridal
shower given by her aunts, Mrs. Mary
Jane Sbani of Oakdale and Mrs. Millie
Wyllins of Patchogue, at Mrs. Sbani’s
Oakdale home. Miss Sbani will be married
March 8 in St. Francis de Sales R.C.
Church, Patchogue, to Donald Jackson of
Blue Point.
Miss Jean Wagner, a graduate of Patchogue
High School and a sophomore at
Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y., is currently
playing in the school’s symphonic band,
which gives many on- and off-campus
performances during the year. Miss
Wagner is a flutist.
Miss Jeanne A. Logan, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert F. Logan of North
Ocean Avenue, a senior at the State
University at Geneseo, N.Y., has been
named to the Dean’s List for the past
semester. She is majoring in speech and
hearing therapy.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ingrisano of
Maple Avenue, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Judy, to
Anthony DiDio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angelo
DiDio of New Jersey Avenue, Bellport.
Miss Ingrisano is in the employ of
the New York Telephone Company. Mr.
DiDio works for Reynolds Electric Company.
A fall wedding is planned.
Navy ensign Ralph Pierno of Patchogue
was commissioned as an ensign in the
Naval Reserve upon his completion of
the aviation officer course at the Naval
Aviation School’s Command in Pensacola,
Fla.
Sal’s Sherwood Inn, East Islip, was the
scene of the 21st wedding anniversary
celebration of Mr. and Mrs. David Linbrunner
of East Patchogue. Joining them
in dinner and dancing on Jan. 15 were
Mr. and Mrs. James Sanna of Shirley, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Strini and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Keyes of East Patchogue.
Cathy Barrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Barrie of General McLean Drive,
Bellport, celebrated her 7th birthday by
attending the Ice Capades at Madison
Square Garden. She also entertained a
few friends at a luncheon party at her
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Claire Shellabarger and
family of South Country Road drove to
Washington, D.C. this weekend, accompanied
by Miss Maria Christina Fogliatti
of Cordoba, Argentina, who is visiting
them for two weeks as a participant of
the People to People Program. They visited
Mr. and Mrs. John Sears, formerly of
Bellport, who have just moved to a new
home in Wheaton, Md.
A group of residents from Bellport
and Brookhaven went to New York on
Friday to attend a bon voyage party
aboard the Cristoforo Colombo, given
by Mr. and Mrs. Theodore C. Bijou, who
are moving to Portugal. They have been
living in this area for nearly 10 years.
A pizza party was given Friday night
for Peggy Zivitz in celebration of her 9th
birthday by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin Zivitz of George Court. A dozen
guests were present.
Many Bellporters enjoyed watching
members of the South Bay Scooter
Club sail their iceboats, scooters and
DNs on Bellport Bay over the weekend.
Although there was good ice on
Saturday, the wind wasn’t conducive
to racing. Only one race took place. On
Sunday there was no wind, and wet ice
prevented any racing.
To celebrate her 7th birthday, Laura
Werner and eight of her friends attended
the puppet show, “Puss ’N Boots” at the
William Floyd School in Mastic Saturday
afternoon, accompanied by her
mother, Mrs. Robert Werner of General
McLean Drive. Laura said her father
gave her “the nicest birthday gift she
had ever received,” a gray kitten, which
she named Whiskers.
Last Friday evening Eve Alburger,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Alburger
of Beaver Dam Road, Brookhaven,
held a hot dog and hot chocolate cookout
alongside their pond, formerly the
Deacon Dan’l Pond of Brookhaven.
Afterwards all the guests went skiing at
the Ski Bowl in Farmingville.
Danny Brunquell, son of Mr. and Mrs.
George Brunquell of Paumanake Road,
Blue Point, celebrated his 7th birthday
last Wednesday with a party for his
friends, Brian Becker, Mark Behan, Pat Davis,
Mike Dollop, Stefan Dubowski, Jimmy Frankman,
Robert Lipira, Stephan Schaefer and
Gary Walsh.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rupp of North
Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Coleen, to John Russell III, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Russell Jr., of Old Medford
Avenue, Medford. Miss Rupp and Mr.
Russell are both in their senior year
at Patchogue High School and expect
to graduate in June. Both are making
plans for a college education. No definite
date has been set for the wedding.
