Frederick and Lucille Dobson of Schroeder
Lane, Patchogue, celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary recently at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. George Abrams
Sr., of Truberg Avenue, Patchogue.
Mrs. Dobson, who earned the name of
“Sunshine,” is well known for her work
with the American Cancer Society and
with Memorial Cancer Hospital in New
York City, where she, herself, has been
a frequent patient. Mr. Dobson, who,
with his wife, conducted Dobson’s Photo
Studio for over 28 years, is employed by
Roberts Press in Patchogue.
At the 30th Reunion Dinner Dance
of Patchogue High School’s Class of
1941 last fall, a scholarship award of
$165 was presented Miss Mary Pastor of
this year’s graduating class. She is a
promising BOCES program participant,
who intends to further her vocational education.
Participating in a six week program
in college mathematics and computer
programming at Stevens Institute of
Technology, Hoboken, N.J., is Joseph
Hanlon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Hanlon of Wiggins Avenue. He is a
senior at Patchogue High School.
Miss Katherine McIntyre, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. George McIntyre of
Washington Avenue, has been accepted
at Seattle Pacific College, Seattle, Wash.
She has been attending Suffolk County
Community College.
Their golden wedding anniversary
was celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore
Izzo of West Hollywood, Fla., with a
party held Saturday at the home of
their daughter, Mrs. Rita Marcott of Swan
Lake Drive, given by her and another
daughter, Mrs. Virginia Weil of Short
Avenue. Flying up from Florida with
his parents was Richard Izzo and his son, Ricky.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
Peters took place on June 11 at Our Lady
of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Following a trip to Las Vegas, Nev.,
and California, they are residing in
Patchogue. Bride is the former Miss Mary
Ann Liguori of Patchogue. Bridegroom,
from Sayville, is with the Suffolk County
Police Department in Bay Shore.
Mr. and Mrs. Steven Benincase of
Fourth Street, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Stephanie, to Jacques Poirier, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Poirier of Barton
Avenue, Patchogue. Miss Benincase is
employed at Chateau Madrid Beauty
Salon in Patchogue. Mr. Poirier has just
completed a fouryear
tour of duty with
the U.S. Navy. The wedding is planned
for May 27.
East Patchogue students at Suffolk
County Community College, Selden,
elected into Pi Alpha Sigma, the college
honor society, are: Robin Best, Stephen
Dinovis, Thomas Kosonen, Francis Mueller,
Ronald Rozsa, Gene Salsberg, Gayle Schaefer
and Elaine Seldon.
Spending the week with Mr. and Mrs.
George Seyfert of George Court, Bellport,
are Mr. and Mrs. George H. Seyfert of
Reading, Pa.
Home for the weekend from Fort Mead,
Md., is E2 Robert Kropp, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard Kropp of Country Club
Road. Also spending the week with Mr.
and Mrs. Kropp are their daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Hal San Severino
and son, Kevin, of Jamestown, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Small of Otis
Lane have returned home after spending
five days in Woods Hole, Mass. While
there they attended the wedding of
their niece, Miss Margaret Metcals, to
Stephen Dawson.
Cynthia Wood, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard Wood of Station Road,
has made the Dean’s List at Russell Sage
College, Troy, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Humbert of Ocean
Avenue, East Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Miriam,
to Benjamin Caronna, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leo Rubino of Bellport. The prospective
bride graduated in June from Bellport
High School.

Michael Schordine has joined his
father, George, thereby becoming the
third generation in the firm of Schordine
Refrigeration, begun by his grandfather,
Fred Schordine, in 1925. A June graduate
of Patchogue-Medford High School, he
was named Student of the Year at the
BOCES refrigeration course.
Miss Karen Vunk, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Hubbard Vunk of old North Ocean
Avenue, Patchogue, a graduate of Seton
Hall High School, has enrolled at the
Katherine Gibbs School in Huntington
for the one-year secretarial course
beginning in September.
Nuptial vows were exchanged June
24 in St. Ann’s Episcopal Church,
Sayville, by Mr. and Mrs. Guy Richard
Hlavac. After a reception at Felice’s of
Patchogue, the couple spent two weeks
in Florida. Mrs. Hlavac is the former
Miss Linda Ruth Dewar of Patchogue.
Young E.J. Roeckel of Swan Lake
Drive, Patchogue, caught 15 fluke last
week while fishing on his father’s boat
in Moriches Inlet. The flukes’ weight
ranged from 2 to 4 pounds.
Mr. and Mrs. August L. Francois of
South Summit Avenue celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary June 25.
They enjoyed a dinner with their family
at Bronco Charlie’s in Oakdale. Mr.
Francois has the distinction of being the
oldest fireman in Suffolk County and a
50-year member of the fire police, and
has reached the age of 90 in a state of
good health. The couple are the parents
of August and Beatrice Francois.
Robert Friedman, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lewis Friedman of Everett Street,
Patchogue, graduated in June from
Princeton University, Princeton, N.J.,
with an A.B. degree in history.
Miss Stephanie Krakowski of North
Patchogue, a student at Patchogue-
Medford High School, will travel to
Nicaragua with Teen Missions Inc., to
help build a girls’ dormitory for a local
school. Her trip will begin with a twoweek
bus trip through the United States
and Mexico. Her venture is sponsored by
the Kiwanis Club of Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Zinser of
Farmingville announce the engagement
of their daughter, Gail Susan, to John
Franklin Pew, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Franklin Pew of Patchogue. Miss Zinser,
who is currently employed at Patchogue
Stationery, is planning to attend
Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. Mr.
Pew is taking a prep course at Dowling
College, Oakdale, where he will be a
member of the freshman class in the fall.
Spending the week with Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Emma of Melrose Parkway, East
Patchogue, are Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Miranda and their daughters, Diana and
Anita, of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
A surprise 75th birthday party was
celebrated by Sullivan Gallo Sr., of Zipp
Avenue, East Patchogue, when his sons,
Michael, of East Patchogue, and Dr. S.
Gallo of Shore Drive, Patchogue, arrived
with their wives and about 50 relatives
and friends. Among those who attended
were Mr. and Mrs. D. Frabizio, daughter
and son-in-law of Dr. and Mrs. Gallo,
formerly of East Patchogue and now
residing in Flagler Beach, Fla.
Phil Gallo, East Patchogue, has
qualified as one of the Farm Family
Insurance companies’ top agents, and
has been awarded a trip to the company’s
mid-summer training conference held at
the Skytop Club, Pa. Phil will be joined
by 27 other agents from New York for the 18th annual event.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Williams of South
Country Road, Bellport, have returned
home after spending 10 days in Las Vegas, Nev.

and Raymond Willis were elected into
Pi Alpha Sigma, the honor society of
Suffolk County Community College.

Middle School that took the ninth-grade
New York State Regents and received 98

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gioia of Shirley
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Angela, to Arthur LeBranche,
son of Mrs. Ruth LeBranche of Bellport
and the late Mr. LeBranche. Miss Gioia,
a graduate of William Floyd High
School, Mastic Beach, is in the employ of
Central School District 4 as a secretary.
Mr. LeBranche graduated from Bellport
High School. He is employed by George
Csabon in Bellport. A winter wedding is planned.

Patchogue-Medford High School
student Stephanie Sullivan, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Sullivan of
Dahlia Drive, Patchogue, will spend her
junior year in England as a Patchogue
Rotary Club exchange student. She will
live with Rotary families and attend school there.
The 11th annual Patchogue Night with
the Mets, sponsored by the Patchogue
Chamber of Commerce, was held July
11 with the largest crowd of Patchogue
rooters ever to join in for the fun evening.
Eight busloads of fans including the
winners of the Merchants Division
Father’s Day promotion, assembled at
Terry Street and Taylor Lane for the
ride to Shea Stadium. While Patchogue’s
contingent had a great time rooting
for their favorites, the Mets, ridden by
injuries, lost to the San Francisco Giants by a score of 6-1.
Posing for their wedding picture were
Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Roger Parris. Their
marriage took place recently at Our Lady
of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue.
After a trip to the Virgin Islands and
Florida, they are at home in Medford.
Bride is the former Miss Patricia Ann
Zampariello of Patchogue.
Arriving for duty at Little Rock AFB,
Ark., is Air Force Sergeant Harold G.
Behnke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Behnke of Carman Street, Patchogue.
He is an aircraft maintenance specialist,
having previously served at Nakhon
Phanom Royal Thai AFB, Thailand.
Councilman and Mrs. Robert L. Hughes
of Whippoorwill Lane, Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Wendy Lee, to Wayne Allen
MacLeod, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
MacLeod of Marvin Street, Patchogue.
Miss Hughes is a 1972 graduate of
Patchogue High School. Mr. MacLeod
graduated from Patchogue High in 1969.
No date has been set for the wedding.
Jonathan Cumming, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Cumming of General
McLean Drive, Bellport, celebrated his
13th birthday last Wednesday with a
barbecue. After dinner Jonathan and his
friends were taken to Maggio’s Bowling
Center for an evening of bowling.
He is now visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Norman Smith at their summer home in Northville.
Mrs. Myrtle Bailey of Old Hickory,
Tenn., is visiting for the week with Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Turner of New Jersey Avenue.
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Potter are spending
the summer at the home of Mrs. Joseph
Corkery of Peat Hole Lane. Mr. and
Mrs. Potter are former residents of Brookhaven.
Melanie Strickland, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Strickland, recently spent
a week visiting her brother, Kenneth, in
Buffalo. Kenneth has accepted a teaching
fellowship at Buffalo State College.
Diane Zavesky, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Zavesky of Circuit Road,
was surprised at a bridal shower given in
her honor at the home of her aunt, Mrs.
George McMahon of Station Road, by
her maid of honor, Miss Karen Ramirez
of Circuit Road, last Saturday evening.
Thirty-five relatives and friends attended
the buffet supper. Diane will become the
bride of James Murdock of Bay Shore on Aug. 27.
A quiet moment was shared happily
by Mr. and Mrs. Maurice M. Kemp Jr.,
after their wedding ceremony June 24 at
Ruth AME Zion Church, Bellport. Bride,
the former Miss Shirley Ann Carle of
Bellport, is employed in a supermarket.
The bridegroom is a music teacher in
Center Moriches High School. Their home is in Bellport.
A summer training cruise at the Great
Lake, Ill., is being experienced by Coast
Guard Cadet Clifford R. Brown, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Brown of Stillwood
Road, Brookhaven. He is aboard the U.S.
Coast Guard Cutter Dallas.
Richard Scileppi, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Scileppi of Blue Point,
has just returned from Great Britain,
where he was studying the history of
landscapes. He is a senior at New York
State University at Cobleskill, majoring in landscaping.

Miss Caryl Friedlander, a graduate of
Patchogue High School and the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Friedlander,
formerly of Patchogue and recently of
Bayport, has been named to the Dean’s
List for the spring semester at the
University of Buffalo. She is a senior
majoring in art history.
Miss Leona Leo, a social studies
teacher at the South Ocean Avenue
Middle School, was honored at a surprise
luncheon at the school in recognition
of her services to the school and the
community. She received a proclamation
from Mayor Robert Waldbauer.
Donald Anthony Aviano of Hallock
Road was named to the Dean’s List at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy,
N.Y., for the spring semester. He is
majoring in the field of biomed.
Returning to San Diego, Calif., Navy
Airman Jeffrey L. Wicks, son of Mrs.
Emily Wicks of Grenville Avenue,
Patchogue, has completed a nine-month
deployment to the Western Pacific.
He is aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation.
The engagement of Miss April
Grieshammer, daughter of Arthur
Grieshammer of Oak Street, Patchogue,
to Thomas Murray, son of Mrs. Adelaide
Murray of Jones Street, Patchogue, has
been announced. Miss Grieshammer is
a bookkeeper at King Kullen, Patchogue.
Mr. Murray is employed at Raynor’s
Funeral Home, Sayville.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory
Williams took place June 17 at Our Lady
of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue,
with a reception following the ceremony
at 112 Lounge, Medford. Mr. Williams
and his bride, the former Miss Shirley
Ann Weldon of Patchogue, are touring
Europe for a month before taking up
residence in East Patchogue.
Preparing for upcoming deployment
to the Mediterranean, Marine Corporal
Robert J. Haack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orto
Haack of Truberg Avenue, Patchogue,
and the husband of the former Miss
Catherine Koller of Medford, participated
in an amphibious exercise with Landing
Team 3-2, homebased at the Marine
Corps base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Recently a graduation party was
held for Miss Pam Maler, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Maler of Zipp
Avenue, East Patchogue, who graduated
from Bellport High School. She will be
attending Dowling College in Oakdale
for the fall semester.
Spending a few weeks with Mr. and
Mrs. Engel Rotzinger of General McLean
Drive, Bellport, were Mr. and Mrs. John
Panda of Orlando, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. William Rueger of Lake
George spent five days visiting with Mr.
and Mrs. Raymond Rueger of Academy Lane.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Warner of
Second Street recently celebrated their
24th wedding anniversary at the Bellport
Hotel. Their guests for the evening were
Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Miller of South Country Road.
A surprise party was given for Miss
Jean Gardner of George Court last
Thursday in honor of her marriage on
Saturday to Kevin McQuade. The party
was given by Miss Karen Smith of
Bellport Lane for many of Jean’s friends.
Mrs. Mary Fuoco of Fuoco Street, Mrs.
Joseph Costanzo of Champlain Road and
Mrs. Emma Barone of Brooklyn have
returned home after a 15-day tour of
Italy. A highlight of their trip was a visit to the Vatican.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sives and
children, Karin and Eric of Beaver Dam
Road, Brookhaven, recently returned
from a 10,000-mile camping trip. They
spent five and a half weeks touring the country.
