Navy Seaman Recruit Robert Beinlich,
son of Mrs. June A. Beinlich of Beach
Avenue, Patchogue, graduated from
recruit training at the Naval Training
Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
Mary Rohrbacher, daughter of the Rev.
and Mrs. Philip Rohrbacher of Monroe
Avenue, has earned the distinction of
being named to the Faculty Honors
List at Southampton College.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Sbani of Liberty
Street, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Lori, to
Gene Zorzenon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Stadier of Corey Avenue, Blue Point.
Miss Sbani is a 1971 graduate of Patchogue
High School and is employed at
Edwin B. Stimpson Co. in Bayport. Mr.
Zorzenon is also employed at Edwin B. Stimpson Co.
Marine Pvt. Gerard H. Mullen, son of
Mr. and Mrs. T. Mullen of South Prospect
Avenue, Patchogue, graduated
from basic training at the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif.
The top three teams in the American
League—Penn Glass, Patchogue
Moose and Sybelle—all won games last
week in the Patchogue Village Recreation’s
Men’s Softball League. Penn
Glass had five homers in its win over
Felice Chevron, hit by Gary Schaeffer,
Don Chiuchiolo, Don Atkins, Jim Julian and
Dom Mercurio, and Bill Olsen had three
hits. Felice Chevron was paced by Hank
Peters’ homer, Gene Matty’s four hits
and Emil Haynes’ three hits. Harry Selg
continued to be Moose’s leader with
two homers, good for four RBIs. Coleman
had four hits and Meyer three to
help secure Moose’s win over Engine
Company. Sybelle had its hitting shoes
on as it destroyed Patchogue 40 Lanes.
Tom Julian and Tom Croci each had five
hits with Julian hitting two homers
and Croci one. Don Campbell and Ray Fell
each had a homer.
Seth Madell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Madell of Shore Road, Patchogue,
a junior at Patchogue-Medford High
School, has been named to receive
the Rensselaer Medal in recognition
of outstanding achievement in mathematics and science.
Anthony Moran, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Moran of Provost Avenue, Bellport,
graduated cum laude recently
from the University of New Hampshire.
Following his graduation from
Seton Hall High School in 1964, he
served four years in the U.S. Marine
Corps. While with the Marines in Vietnam,
Mr. Moran received a meritorious
promotion to sergeant.
Spending the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Paige of Gerard Street were
Dr. and Mrs. Freeman Love of Brooklyn Heights.
Spending two weeks with Mr. and
Mrs. Alan Thorndike of South Howells
Point Road is Mrs. Todd Gould and
her children, Andrew, Stephanie and
Christopher of Lake Orion, Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. Byron Athanasiou of General
McLean Drive spent the weekend
at Cooperstown. On their way
there they stopped and picked up their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Steven Trowbridge and their daughter,
Christine, of Latham.
Nick Petrillo of the Bellport Golf
Course and Tom Palace, also of Bellport,
were winners recently in a Pro-Junior
Tournament held at the Inwood Country
Club of New York. Their winning
score was a gross 69.
Ellen French of Academy Lane was
one of 48 students of Central Michigan
University to be awarded academic
honors for the 1973 winter semester.
Miss French, a senior, has achieved a
GPA of B or better for her entire college career.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Masem, formerly
of Oregon Avenue, Medford, have
been visiting relatives and friends in
Medford, Patchogue, East Patchogue
and Blue Point. The Masems now
reside in Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.

Ms. Kathryn Walsh of Lincoln Road,
Patchogue, was recently elected to
serve as a member of the board of
trustees of the Patchogue Library. At
22, she is the youngest person to be
elected to a library board in Suffolk
County and reflects the responsible
involvement that is being demonstrated
by many young people today. Ms. Walsh
is employed in the science department
of the Patchogue-Medford Schools.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cogliano of
Patchogue have announced the
engagement of their daughter, Jeannine
Marie Cogliano, to Joseph A. Juliano,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Mario Juliano,
also of Patchogue. Miss Cogliano is a
graduate of Seton Hall High School
and is attending Suffolk Community
College, studying secretarial science.
Her fiancé is a graduate of Patchogue
High School and SCC and is employed
as an optician. A 1974 fall wedding is planned.
Air Force Major Donald Post, son
of Mrs. Beatrice Post of Lake Drive,
Patchogue, has graduated from the
Armed Forces Staff College at Norfolk,
Va. Major Post’s wife is the former
Helen E. Swirsky.
Mrs. Peggy Kolb of Lee Avenue
celebrated her birthday on July 31.
Airman Kim M. Morrison, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth L. Morrison
of South Prospect Avenue, Patchogue,
has been assigned to Keesler AFB,
Miss., after completing Air Force
basic training at the Air Training
Command’s Lackland AFB, Texas.
Airman Morrison was graduated in
1971 from Kindley Dependent High
School, Bermuda.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Wilson Sr.,
of Mount Vernon Avenue, Medford,
wish to announce the marriage of
their daughter, Kathleen, to Mr. Siraj
Memon. They were married in a private
ceremony in Bristol, Tenn., on May 5.
The bride is a graduate of Patchogue
High School and the groom is from
Pakistan. He is employed as a civil
engineer with a firm in Elizabeth, N.J.,
where the couple now resides.
Aboard the Emerald Seas were
Ruth Krebs and Helen Fuoco of East
Patchogue, bound for a weekend in
Nassau after leaving Miami.
Mr. and Mrs. Emery Van Horn of
Durkee Lane, East Patchogue
celebrated their 40th wedding
anniversary on Saturday with a party
at their home with 50 guests attending.
A cooperative picnic supper was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
George Staples of Country Club
Road, Bellport, on Friday evening for
a farewell to Mrs. Kitty Tutino and
her daughters, Kitty and Tina, of
Country Club Road, who are moving
to Philadelphia. Those attending the
party were Mr. and Mrs. John Dayton,
Mrs. Julie Novack, Dave Novack, Mr.
and Mrs. Anthony Schaefer, Miss Lillian
Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Johnson,

Joey Herrera, daughter of Mrs. and

just returned from a three-week trip.

Girl Scouts, to Nashville Center West in Wyoming.

Lane spent the weekend boating and
sailing with Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Christian of North Howells Point
Road aboard the Christians’ yacht,
Valhalla. The couples went out east to
Shinnecock and Peconic bays.

of Country Greens Drive announce
the arrival of their second daughter,
Kristin Anne, on July 13. Kristin Anne
was welcomed home from Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital by her 2-year-old sister, Karen.
Lynn Stonebridge, daughter of

Kathy Hulse, daughters of Mr. and Mrs.

home after spending two weeks at

A surprise birthday party was given
for Gustav S. Hedberg of Grove Avenue,
Patchogue, by his family and church
friends, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hedberg
of Wollaston, Mass., Mr. and Mrs.
Wesley Hedberg of Patchogue, Mrs.
Margaret Hedberg Ardrey of Lowell,
Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Monte Munford of
Patchogue and Pastor Eddy of the Nazarene
Church. Mr. Hedberg was 80 years old Aug. 3.
Michael J. McKeon Jr., of Dearborn
Street, Patchogue, a recent graduate
of LaSalle Military Academy, is to be
listed in the seventh annual edition of
“Who’s Who Among American High
School Students 1972-73.” He earned
the general excellence award for academics
at LaSalle, where he attained
the rank of cadet captain.
The Brookhaven Town Recreation
Department again this summer conducted
one of the largest American
Red Cross water safety and swimming
instruction courses in Suffolk County,
with close to 4,000 town residents
taking advantage of the free classes.
The staff of instructors who supervised
the course included: Rita Harder,
Cathy Zeidler, Fran Mizrahi, Lisa Rosenblatt,
Joan Silverman, Jeanne Pelletier, Patty Layburn,
Dorothy Cantwell, Wendy Ann Crabtree,
Loretta Detweiler, Tom Hitter, Diana Deane,
Rita Armstrong, Karen Schrader, Marcia
Jones and Jackie Scaglione.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Vogt of Medford
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Gertrude Emily, to Laurence Walter
Milian, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J.
Milian of Patchogue. Trudi and Larry
are both graduates of Patchogue High
School and are in their senior year at
college. Trudi attends Slippery Rock
State College and Larry, the State University
at Buffalo. An August 1974 weddingis planned.
Miss Kathleen A. Daly, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John J. Daly Jr., of Dahlia
Drive West, East Patchogue, has
accepted a third-grade teaching position
for September in Sachem Central
School District 5, Holbrook. A graduate
of Seton Hall High School, Miss Daly
majored in the elementary education
program and received her bachelor’s
degree at the State University College at Oneonta.
John Sclafani, a vice president of
the Marine Midland-Tinker National
Bank, was the winner of the 12th
annual Mickey Felice Golf Tournament
held at the Bellport Country Club last
Thursday. The tournament was held
for the benefit of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.
Staff Sergeant Anita R. Neuhaus,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M.
Carr of Maple Avenue, Patchogue, has
graduated with honors at Sheppard
AFB, Texas, from the U.S. Air Force
preventive medicine specialist course
conducted by the Air Training Command.
Sgt. Neuhaus is being assigned
to Eglin AFB, Fla., for duty. A 1963
graduate of Bellport High School, she
attended Suffolk County Community College, Selden.
Mr. and Mrs. Steven Boyle Sr., and
their children, Steven Jr., and Dennine
of Country Greens Drive, Bellport,
spent three days in Lancaster, Pa.
While there they toured Hershey.
Michael LaGrega Sr., of Maple Avenue
celebrated his birthday on Tuesday
with a party in his honor for family and friends.
Visiting their grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. E. Floyd Hassell of George Court,
for one week are Gregory and Rebecca
Hassell of Scituate, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Vaughan have
moved into their new home on Country Club Road.
Miss Linda Diecidue of George Court
was surprised at a bridal shower given
in her honor on July 29 at the
home of Mrs. Kathy Edwards of East Patchogue.
The shower was given by Mrs.
Edwards, Miss Wendy Colichio of East
Patchogue and Mrs. Camille Daniels of
East Moriches for 60 guests. Miss Diecidue
will be married to Duke Colichio of
East Patchogue on Sept. 16.

Mrs. Elizabeth Heller, “Betty” to her
many friends, retired June 23 as a
school crossing guard. Her post was at
Baker Street and South Ocean Avenue,
Patchogue. Betty will long be remembered
for her bright smile and cheery
greetings. Mr. and Mrs. Heller will be
moving to their new home in Bainbridge,
Ga., at the end of August. They
will mark their 44th wedding anniversary in November.
The winner at the private estate and
antique jewelry sale held Monday night
at Rose Jewelers in Patchogue was Mrs.
Floyd Haskell of Bellport. Mrs. Haskell
won $150 worth of merchandise at the
Main Street store. Ed Mitchell, executive
director of the Patchogue Chamber of
Commerce, drew the winning ticket at
the annual event, assisted by Mrs. Murray
Rosenblatt and Mrs. Robert Rosenblatt.
Miss Carol M. Minaudo, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Philip W. Minaudo of Park
Street, Patchogue, has graduated from
the nursing program of Suffolk County
Community College. She received an
associate of arts and sciences degree.
Miss Minaudo is a 1971 graduate of Patchogue
High School and also teaches
fundamental music under the instruction
of Mrs. Samuel DiSibio.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Stiriz of Lake Drive,
Patchogue, were honored Sunday, Aug.
12 at a surprise 45th wedding anniversary
party given by their children, Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Stiriz and Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Parliman, both of East
Patchogue, and Mrs. and Mrs. David
Edwards of Richmond, Va. Over 35
guests attended the festivities at the Donald Stiriz’s home.
The Swiftway Brewers are the undefeated
champions of the Village of Patchogue
Recreation Department’s high
school softball league. They completed
their perfect season Friday with a 10-6
win over Shelter Tech. The 16-man
championship squad consists of Gary
Costanzo, Jim Hawley, Joe Mannino, Gary
Searles, Bill Bahnsen, Tim Kalivas, Mike Connelly,
John Wall and John Bennett. Also
Vin Dragone, Art Kasendorf, Ed Keiffert, Ron
Lum, Al Romeo, Keith Hulse and Joe Sanders.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wecera of Washington
Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Marilyn
Linda Wecera, to Don Burke of Medford,
son of Thomas Burke of Freeport. Miss
Wecera is a graduate of Patchogue
High School and is presently employed
by Lentins of Patchogue. Mr. Burke
is presently employed by Hazeltine in
Greenlawn. No date has been set for the wedding.
Miss Cathy Coleman of Circuit Road,
Bellport, and Miss Judy Pate of East
Patchogue recently returned from an
11-week trip to England, Holland, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.
On Saturday, Aug. 11, Mr. and Mrs.
William Strickland of Browns Lane hosted
a family reunion in honor of the
84th birthday celebration of Herbert
Biedermann of Freeport. Forty-five
family members attended the gathering.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rene Sr. of Maple
Avenue were guests at the celebration
party of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schmitt of
Center Moriches, who celebrated their
anniversary and the birthday of their daughter, Sybille.
Steven R. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert M. Brown of Brookhaven, has
been named to the Dean’s List at Alfred
University for the second semester of
the 1972-73 academic year. He is currently
enrolled as a senior in Alfred’s
School of Business Administration.
Marine Pvt. Andrew Salvo, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Antonio G. Salvo of Middle
Road, Blue Point, has reported for
duty at the Marine Corps Base, Camp LeJeune, N.C.
Robert Densing, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Densing of Peconic Avenue,
Medford, has been admitted as a transfer
student at the State University College
at Brockport. He graduated in June
from the State University Agricultural
and Technical College at Delhi.

Airman Kevin E. Browning, son
of Mrs. Kay A. Browning of Leo
Street, Patchogue, has been assigned
to Sheppard AFB, Texas, after
completing Air Force basic training.
The airman has been assigned to
the Technical Training Center at
Sheppard for specialized training in aircraft maintenance.
A fishing contest was sponsored by
the Patchogue Rotary Club Sunday
at the village dock, coordinated by
Clifford Bennett Jr., who is also club
president and principal at South
Ocean Avenue Middle School. First
prize in the 10-to-13-year-old age
group was won by Barry Biviano and
first prize in the 7-to-11-year-old age
group went to Arthur Mascarella.
Those who did not win trophies were
given items of fishing gear, such as a bobber or hook.
The Class of ’74 will be the last
class to receive diplomas from Seton
Hall. However, the closing of the
parochial school next June might
not mark the closing of the physical
plant as an educational institution in
Patchogue. The Patchogue-Medford
School District has been examining
the purchase of the 800-pupil facility
as one alternative to the district’s classroom crunch.
A weeklong cruise to Cape
Haitien, San Juan, St. Thomas and
Nassau aboard the M/S Skyward of
Norwegian Caribbean Lines was part
of a recent Florida vacation for Mr.
and Mrs. Walter R. Smith Jr., of Bay
Avenue, East Moriches, and Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Deedy of Vernon Street, Patchogue.
The Village of Patchogue
Recreation and Parks Department
conducted a mini-tournament for
the children at the conclusion of the
summer instruction program at the
Rider Avenue tennis courts. Secondplace
finishers were John Udle, Pat
O’Connor and Jim Reese. This year’s
champions were Sharon O’Connor,
Laurie Marasco, Rich Marasco and Ronnie Knox.
Pamela V. Michaels of East
Patchogue, who graduated from
Seton Hall High School in June, was
recently notified that she is to be
listed in the seventh annual edition
of Who’s Who Among American
High School Students. Pamela is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
F. Michaels of Erving Avenue. Her
ambition is to become a pediatric
surgeon; she will be attending the
State University of New York at Stony
Brook as a pre-med major.
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Johnson of
Country Club Road, Bellport, just
returned from a six-day trip to
upstate New York. On their trip they
stopped and visited Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin Nystrom of Cincinnatus, N.Y.,
former residents of Bellport and
Brookhaven, and the Rev. and Mrs.
Bob Roush of Rock Hill, N.Y., former
residents of East Patchogue.
Miss Cathy Coleman spent the
weekend in Charleston, S.C., before
returning to the Winthrop College
in Rock Hill S.C., where Cathy will
begin the fall semester in her junior year.
Miss Wendlyn Smith of Station Road
left today for Syracuse, N.Y., where
she will begin a teaching job for a
fourth-grade class in the Liverpool
school system.
Mrs. William Florio and her
daughter, Debbie, of General McLean
Drive have returned home after
spending five weeks aboard their
boat, “June 5th,” which was anchored
at Davis Park. Mr. Florio and the
family commuted to Davis Park.
Paul Schoenig, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Schoenig, left on Friday for
the Great Lakes in Illinois, where he
will be stationed with the U.S. Navy.
Paul is a 1972 graduate of Seton Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Schoenig’s son, Michael,
will be attending the School of Visual
Arts in Manhattan, where he will
study fine arts. Michael is a 1973
graduate of Seton Hall.
The Bellport Garden Club recently
sponsored a local boy, Randy Dixon, at
Camp DeBruce Environmental Camp in the Catskills.
