Peter Mark Hodkin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Hodkin of Monroe Avenue,
Patchogue, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Boston University’s
College of Liberal Arts. Hodkin, a 1970
graduate of Patchogue High School, is
a senior majoring in American history
and civilization. After graduating this
May, he plans to attend law school.
The following boys were welcomed
into Cub Pack 177 at the September
meeting: Bruce Bennett, Steven Davis, Art
Ressig, Keith Lubinsky, Thomas Panullo, John
Pelligrino, Peter Forte, Thomas Stephens,
Louis Llanes, Wayne Vitale, Marc Silverbush,
Anthony Costagliola, Randall Hayward, Ralph
Roughton and Russell Mistler. Receiving
their one-year service stars were John
Sudano, John Neyssen, David Howland, Shaun
Snee, James Wright, Thomas Dezego, Paul
Cummings, John Daley and Anthony Diuto.
Graduating into Boy Scout Troop 177
were Gary Sennes and Thomas Detweiler.
James Fox graduated into Webloes.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Aviano of Shore
Drive, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Deborah,
to Ralph Toscano, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Salvatore Toscano of Beatrice Court,
Patchogue. The bride-to-be is a 1969
graduate of Patchogue High School
and is employed at the Long Island
Barber and Beauty Supply Company
in Patchogue. The groom-to-be is selfemployed
in a welding and railing
business in Patchogue. No date has been
set for the wedding.
The 13th annual Patchogue Youth
Association’s awards dinner was held
last week at Felice’s of Patchogue. A
crowd of over 475 players, parents,
managers, coaches and officials
attended, and Ed Kranepool of the New
York Mets was the guest speaker. Frank
Hark was the recipient of the George
E. Skidmore trophy as the outstanding
player in the Senior League.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis C. Wicks of Walnut
Avenue, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Linda
Louise, to John Lucas, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Lucas of Catskill, N.Y. Miss Wicks
is a 1972 graduate of Patchogue-Medford
High School and attended Albany
Medical Center School of Nursing.
Mr. Lucas attended schools in Catskill
and served five years in the Army as
a medic. He was employed by Albany
Medical Center as an operating room
technician. He is currently working
for the Village of Patchogue. A May wedding is planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rose of Gerard
Street, Bellport, recently returned home
after a two-week vacation visiting their
son, Keith F.R. Rose, in Kansas City, Mo.,
and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. John Cascone of Bayside, N.Y.
Tony Seaton, a graduate of Bellport
High School, is a member of the soccer
team at Davis and Elkins College.
Davis and Elkins has won two NAIA
national soccer titles in the past five
years and finished in the runner-up
spot the other three years. Seaton plays
fullback on the team.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Warburton of
Bieselin Road just returned from a oneweek
trip to Oahu and Maui, Hawaii.
On their return trip home they stopped
off at St. Louis, Mo., to visit their
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vining.
Two Bellport High School students were
named as National Merit semi-finalists.
They are Kent Rahm and Kiyomi Shimanoto.
These students are now eligible to
compete for placement as finalists and
possible scholarship winners in the
National Merit competition.
Philip Watson and Louis Andors, both of
Beaver Dam Road, Brookhaven, rode
in the Bike-A-Thon last Saturday. Both
boys made the 108 miles to Montauk Point.

The Bay Avenue School in Patchogue
is in the midst of a special collection
drive aimed at obtaining greatly
needed audio-visual equipment.
“Labels for Education” is sponsored
by Campbell Soup Company. They
hope to collect enough Campbell Soup
labels to earn a cassette recorder,
filmstrip projector and an overhead projector.
The 42nd annual meeting of the
New York State Council of Retail
Merchants will be held at Paradise
Island, Nassau, the Bahamas, from
Oct. 14-21. Delegates attending from
Patchogue include: Henry Roth of
Roth’s; John F. Luchsinger and Carroll
Swezey of Swezey’s, and Marvin Krauss
of The Pacesetter.
Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta
at the University of South Dakota
recently pledged Mary Ricciardello,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Ricciardello of Patchogue.
Miss Linda Beller was the
accompanist for Cantor Nathan Bryn
when he entertained the members of
the Patchogue Sorosis with a program
of Hebrew song.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stuzenske of
Avery Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Mary Ann, to Mr. Harry Wipple, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Wipple of Colonie,
N.Y. Miss Stuzenske was graduated
from Patchogue High School and is
attending Albany Medical Center
School of Nursing. Mr. Wipple, who is
an alumnus of Albany Medical Center
School of Nursing, is employed as a
graduate student nurse at the center.
A March wedding is planned.
The Patchogue JV soccer team is
now halfway through its season with
a record of 6-2-1. The Junior Red
Raiders are credited with five straight
shutouts. Team members include:

Bitondo, Tim Freely, John Tortorella, Ron
Figat, John Rodefeld, Brian Winkler, Dom

William Patanjo Jr., was honored at
a party given by the girls and boys
of the Bellport Fire Department
Beachcomber Band. Mr. Patanjo
has worked with the youngsters for
four years as their band director. In
appreciation they presented him with a plaque.
John Rossi of Circuit Road, Bellport,
was awarded two ribbons at the Long
Island Professional Photographers
Convention on Oct. 1. The awardwinning
photography is now on
display at the Marine Midland Bank in Bellport.
Spending four weeks with Mr. and
Mrs. Guenter Jansen of Livingston
Road was Mrs. Elsbeth Mohr of
Ruesselsheim, Germany. Mrs.
Mohr and Mrs. Herge Jansen were
childhood friends and grew up
together in Kaltennordheim, East Germany.
Kym Renea Roberts, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Roberts of Bellport
Avenue, celebrated her first birthday
on Sunday with a party given in her
honor for the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Austin Roe have
announced the birth of a son, Brian
Austin Roe, born Oct. 4 in Suffern,
N.Y. Brian is the first grandchild
of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Roe of South
Howells Point Road.
Christine McKeown and Otto Goldstein
are two local students attending
Colby College, Waterville, making up
some of the 40 New York students
that enrolled there this September.
Otto is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David
J. Goldstein of South Country Road,
Bellport. Chris is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Michael McKeown of Mott
Lane, Brookhaven.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent A. Fucci of
South Hauppauge announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Celeste, to John Gregory, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John J. Gregory of Bieselin
Road, Bellport. No date has been set

chosen at random who will celebrate
their 50th wedding anniversary this

Ernie Geraci received the Player of
the Week award from Patchogue’s
head varsity football coach Martin
Hoctor for his outstanding play in the
Raiders’ 14-6 loss to Northport on
Saturday. Robert Dana of the National
Bank of North America presents this
award each week to the outstanding
player of the Patchogue-Medford
High School varsity football team.
A fall garden framed the wedding
portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen
Anthony Satornino following their
recent marriage at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel R.C. Church, Patchogue. The
bride is the former Miss Deborah Jane
Wittneben of Patchogue. Both are
graduates of Patchogue High School.
Family and friends gathered
at Mickey Felice’s Restaurant on
Saturday evening to celebrate the
50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Spaeth of Roseland Lane, East Patchogue.
Titus Kana of Bellport is a member
of the marching band at Franklin
and Marshall College this fall. The
band performs at each of F&M’s
nine football games, both home and
away. Mr. Kana, a trombone player, is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milan Kana
of South Howells Point Road and
is a 1972 graduate of Bellport High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Turner of New Jersey
Avenue announce the arrival of a
baby boy, Scott Edward, on Oct. 15.
The Turners have two other children,
David and Deborah.
Mr. and Mrs. Dey Demarest of
Nokomis, Fla., returned home on
Monday after spending five days
visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Houston
of Country Club Road and many of their friends.
The Bellport High School freshman
class will sponsor a car wash on
Friday in the Bellport High School
parking lot; $1 per car.
Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Smith of Bellport
Lane spent the weekend visiting their
children during Parents Weekend.
They visited Hunter Smith at Brown
University in Providence, R.I. and
Karen Smith at Curry College in Milton, Mass.

attended the Patchogue Moose Club’s
cocktail party held on Oct. 6.
Robert T. “Bob” Hendrick of Lacy
Court, Blue Point, is a co-captain
on the Thomas College, Waterville,
Me., soccer team. The Terriers are in
second place behind the undefeated
University of Maine. Bob is a graduate
of James Wilson Young High School, Bayport.

Airman Kevin E. Browning, son of
Mrs. James R. Browning of Leo Street,
Patchogue, has graduated at Sheppard
AFB, Texas, from the U.S. Air Force
aircraft mechanic course conducted by
the Air Training Command. Airman
Browning, who was trained to repair
current Air Force jet aircraft, is being
assigned to Warner-Robins AFB, Ga.,
for duty with a unit of the Aerospace
Defense Command.
Hon. and Mrs. Lincoln G. Schmidt
of West Avenue, Patchogue, are the
proud grandparents of a grandson,
Paul Lincoln Schmidt, born Oct. 13 to
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin L. Schmidt of Marietta, Ga.
The Village of Patchogue Recreation
and Parks Department conducted its
Punt, Pass and Kick competition for
141 boys ages 8-13 Saturday at the Rider
Avenue Park. The winners were: Rob
Jennings, age 8, first place; Vin Romeo,
age 8, second place; Chris Lazarou,
age 9, first place; Brian Heflin, age
9, second place; Jeff Porter, age 10,
first place; Russ Imbesi, age 10, second

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Brown of
Howell Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Robin, to Thomas Edward Hahn of Pine
Street, Patchogue. Robin is a student
at Patchogue-Medford High School
and will graduate in January. Thomas
graduated with the class of 1972 from
Patchogue-Medford High School and
is presently employed at Lyon Auto
Leasing in Coram. An Aug. 18 wedding is planned.

is performing with the band at State
University Agricultural and Technical
College in Alfred.
Marine Pvt. Diane R. VonGlahn,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August
VonGlahn of South Summit Avenue,
Patchogue, graduated from basic
training at the Marine Corps Recruit
Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Potter of
Rogers Avenue, Bellport, have returned
from a visit to their daughter, Jane, and
Miss Nancy Rogers of George Court, at
their home in Boston. Nancy is a senior
at Northeastern University. Jane was
the first student starting as a freshman
to graduate from the experimental
College of Antioch-Columbia, a
Maryland branch of Antioch College.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Temple of

Ames attended the dinner-dance
sponsored by the Phantom Regiment
on Saturday evening held at the
Patchogue Elks Club.
Mrs. Isabel Nardi of Rogers Avenue
recently returned from a three-week
trip to England. She visited relatives
and many old school friends in London,
Oxford, Hove, Folkestone, Yeovil and Bath.
Gus Costanzo of Champlain Avenue
celebrated his 99th birthday recently
with the visit of many friends and
relatives who came to call on him. A
surprise visit was from his niece and
nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shanley of
Boyton Beach, Fla.
Miss Linda Diecidue of George
Court, Bellport, became the bride of
Duke Anthony Colichio of Amsterdam
Avenue, East Patchogue, on Sunday,
Sept. 16 at Mary Immaculate R.C.
Church, Bellport. Following the
ceremony, a reception was held at
Felice’s of Patchogue before the bride
and groom departed for a one-week
honeymoon at Cove Haven in the
Poconos. Mr. and Mrs. Colichio are
residing in Bellport.
Navy Operations Specialist 3/c
Thomas E. Rice, son of Mrs. Kathryn M.
Rice of Connecticut Avenue, Medford,
was aboard the guided missile frigate
USS Dewey as she passed through the
Straits of Gibraltar and entered the
Mediterranean. He will participate in
operations with the U.S. Sixth Fleet
during the four-month deployment.
