Navy Seaman Recruit John T. Rumore,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Rumore
of Northridge Street, Patchogue,
graduated from recruit training at the
Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
The Tiny Tots, a singing group that
hails from the Bay Avenue School
in Patchogue, performed recently
for the residents of the South Shore
Convalescent Home on South Ocean
Avenue. They were accompanied by
teacher Miss Peggy Pendzick and Mrs.
Linda Schaefer.
On Christmas Day, Mrs. Frances
Kvares of Center Moriches spent
her 17th year on lone duty at the
receptionist desk at Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital. A volunteer year round,
she takes the Christmas duty so
that other volunteers may be at home.
U.S. Marine Corps Private Diane Von
Glahn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August
Von Glahn of South Summit Avenue,
Patchogue, graduated from boot camp
at Parris Island, S.C., Oct. 10, and is
now studying electronics at Twenty-
Nine Palms, Calif. Diane graduated
from Patchogue-Medford High School
last June. She returned home last week
for a 10-day Christmas leave.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard John Burke
were married recently at St. Francis
de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue. The
bride is the former Miss Nancy Ann
Hope of Patchogue. Both are graduates
of Patchogue-Medford High School.
A golden anniversary was celebrated
by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Benincase of
Patchogue, who celebrated 50 years of
married life with a party for 160 guests
at the Bellport Country Club, Nov. 24.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Buhler of Cedar
Avenue, Patchogue, have announced
the engagement of their daughter,
Carolyn Buhler, to Anthony Vinciguerra,
son of Mrs. Nancy Vinciguerra of
Wantagh. The wedding date has been
set for July 28.
Raymond Bonti, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Bonti of Spruce Drive,
East Patchogue, appeared on Long
Island’s new television channel 67 on
Dec. 26 demonstrating various Kung
Fu techniques. He has a black belt
in karate and teaches karate at the
Ryukyus school in Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Potter of
Rogers Avenue, Bellport, welcomed
their son, Lawrence Potter, home for
the holidays after more than a year out
of the country, mostly teaching in Iran.
Their daughter, Jane, was also home
for Christmas from her job with a law
firm in Boston, Mass.
Miss Wendlyn Smith returned on
Dec. 28 to DeWitt, N.Y., where she
is a teacher in Liverpool, N.Y., after
spending the holidays with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Smith of Station Road.
Mr. and Mrs. Alan Crane of Country
Greens Drive announce the arrival
of their first child, a girl, Melanie
Dawn, born on Dec. 10 at Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Skidmore
of Second Street, Bellport, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Susan, to Edward Tew Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Tew of Cooks Road,
East Patchogue. Susan will graduate
this June from Bellport High School.
Edward is a 1973 graduate of Bellport
High School and is employed as an
auto mechanic. No date has been set
for the wedding.
First-grade teachers Mrs. Louise
Rossi and Mrs. Janice Bruno of the
Kreamer Street Elementary School
combined classes and came up with a
play titled, “Santa Claus for President.”
Santa was played by Louis Bono and
Mrs. Claus by Jodi Altrui.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lohmann of
Brookhaven have announced the
engagement of their daughter, June
Lohmann, to Thomas Durham, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Durham of
Farmingville. Miss Lohmann is
majoring in education at Lebanon
Valley College in Pennsylvania and
will graduate in June. Mr. Durham
is attending Brandeis University
in Boston, where he is majoring in
science. No date has been set for the wedding.

The all-school musical, “Mame,” will
be presented at Patchogue-Medford
High School, Feb. 1 and 2. The show is
directed by Bert Pollock and produced
by John Sifaneck. Assistant producer
is Mary Ann Kalivas, secretary of the
General Organization at the high
school. Sandy Lowe will play Mame
Dennis and Jimmy McCoy will play her nephew, Patrick.
The annual children’s Christmas
party sponsored by the Patchogue
Kiwanis Club was attended by 60
children of members and their guests.
Santa Claus was played by Jim Derby.
Program chairmen were Ken Pfeifle
and Pat Felice. Kiwanis president is Roy J. Watts.
High scorers for the Patchogue-
Medford Raiders basketball team
in the game against Ward Melville
were Jim Nicolosi with 16 points, Billy
Thieben with 13 and Al Willet with 11.
The Raiders lost, 67-62.
Raider wrestlers lost to Ward
Melville, 28-18. In the 107 weight class,
Craig Kelsky pinned his man; In the
147 weight class, Ed Hutchins pinned
his man; in the 169 weight class, Jeff
Wittneben pinned his man, and in the
heavyweight division, Mike DeGasperi
pinned his man. This was not enough
to give the Raiders a victory.
The paintings of Willet Ryder, a local
artist, are on display at the Patchogue
Library this month. Mr. Ryder, an
art educator, lives in Patchogue with
his wife, Eleanor, who teaches at the
Medford Avenue School.
June B. Morris, daughter of Mr.
James A. Morris and Mrs. Grace M.
Davies, both of Patchogue, has become
engaged to Charles D. Martino Jr., son
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Martino
Sr., of Third Street, Patchogue. Both
June and Chuck are graduates of
Patchogue High School Class of 1970.

Mr. Raymond Boerjes of Patchogue
announces the engagement of his
daughter, Sara Lynne, to Paul Kost
of East Patchogue. Both are 1971
graduates of Patchogue High School.
Miss Boerjes is currently attending
Suffolk Community College. Mr. Kost
is employed by Heide Construction.
John Sailor, son of Dr. and Mrs.
Vance Sailor of Durkee Lane, East
Patchogue, is the 1974 winner of the
Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science
Award medal for achieving the highest
scholastic record in science subjects at
Bellport High School, with an average of 99 percent.
The Easter Bunny made his early
arrival on Harvard Place, East
Patchogue, by the construction of
an 8-foot snow rabbit. On Friday
Cindy, James and Kathy Gooden, Patty
Fusco and Gina Humbert constructed
the snow rabbit during the recent
snowstorm and the closing of school.
Anthony Nesi Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Nesi Sr., of Maple Avenue,
Bellport, celebrated his 13th birthday
on Sunday. Mr. Nesi, Anthony, his
brother Perry, Joseph Rene, Michael
Goff and his cousin, Anthony Nesi,
went to the Nassau Coliseum to see
the Nets basketball game.
Mrs. Florence Testa of Brooklyn
Heights spent four days over the
Christmas holidays with her sister,
Mrs. Andrew Olsen of Station Road.
They enjoyed Christmas Day with
family in Brookhaven. On New Year’s
Day Mrs. Olsen visited with relatives in Westhampton.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Warner of
Eastport announce the engagement
of their daughter, Robin, to Stephen
Sanford Saulle, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Salvatore Saulle of Epson Course,
Brookhaven. Robin is a graduate of
Eastport High School. Stephen is a
graduate of Bellport High School and
Washington State University. Feb. 16 is
the date set for the wedding.

The Patchogue High School Class
of 1940 Scholarship Committee met
recently with its fifth award winner,
Richard Yaeger of Medford. The
six committee members are John
Dioguardo, John Pontieri, John Perry,
Ann (Chiuchiolo) Knoedl, Margaret
(Holtgrave) Wittler and Rose (Petrallia) Zegel.
Patchogue Kiwanis Club vice
president Hugh MacLeod recently
presented $100 awards to the Key
clubs from the Patchogue, Bellport
and Seton Hall high schools in
recognition of their assistance
during the second Invitational
Golf Tournament for the benefit
of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.

Glass of Patchogue High School,
Fred Varney of Bellport High School
and Al Benincasa of Seton Hall High School.
Army Private Alberto Santiago,
18, son of Mrs. Hilda Santiago of
West Main Street, Patchogue, has
completed eight weeks of basic
training at Fort Jackson, S.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Randall of
Grove Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Joan, to Daniel Cassidy, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Daniel Cassidy of Sayville.
Miss Randall is attending Patchogue-
Medford High School. Mr. Cassidy, a
graduate of Sayville High School, is
employed in construction. No date

Celebrating 70 years of marriage
are Michael and Rose Gazzola of East
Patchogue, who were honored Jan.
11 at a party given for about 160
relatives at the Bellport Country
Club. The celebration also honored
Mike’s 100th birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Mason Jr., of
Rogers Avenue, Bellport, announce
the arrival of a baby girl, Merrideth
Ann, on Jan. 3. She was welcomed
home from Brookhaven Memorial
Hospital by her brother, Adrian III.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steedman and
their children of Country Club Road
have returned home after spending
four weeks in Berlin, Germany
visiting Mrs. Steedman’s mother,
Mrs. Elizabeth Heiland, members of
the family and friends.
Miss Cathy Coleman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Coleman of
Circuit Road, has returned to the
Winthrop College for Women in Rock Hill, S.C.
Mrs. Edward Bergin and her
daughter, Julia, of Thornhedge
Road returned from a one-week
trip to Bermuda. They stayed at the
Princess Hotel in Hamilton. Julia
will return on Sunday to the New
York State University at Cortland, where she is a junior.
Brian Olin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Olin of Maple Avenue,
celebrated his 7th birthday at a family gathering.
Denis DiDio has been selected as
the Junior Fireman of the Year
for 1973 because of his dedicated
service to the Bellport Junior Fire Department.
A benefit cocktail dance to raise
funds for an acoustical band shell to
be erected on the existing bandstand
at the foot of Bellport Lane will be
held on Jan. 20 at the Bellport Golf
and Tennis Club. Hors d’oeuvres will
be served, prizes awarded and Mel
Rader’s Trio will play for dancing.
Tickets are $5 and may be obtained
by contacting committee member Joseph Pendergast.
Mr. and Mrs. James P. Hoyt
of Brookhaven announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Darlene, to Patrick Joseph Treschel
Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick
Treschel of Medford. Miss Hoyt is a
senior at Longwood High School and
is presently employed as a secretary
for two ophthalmologists in
Patchogue. Her fiancé is a graduate
of Patchogue-Medford High School
and is presently employed by the

Patricia Ann Murphy, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Murphy of
Brook Street, Patchogue, received
her Bachelor of Arts degree at
commencement exercises Dec. 21 at
Barry College, Miami Shores, Fla. A
liberal arts major at Barry, Patricia
attended Seton Hall High School in Patchogue.
Leonard J. Daconta of Park Place,
Patchogue, recently retired from the
U.S. Postal Service after almost 37
years of service. He began his career
in 1937 as a temporary clerk at the
Hudson Terminal Station, New York
City, with a starting salary of 65 cents
per hour. In 1951 he was transferred
to the Patchogue Post Office, where
he was instrumental in getting three
regional awards for the Patchogue P.O.
Mr. Daconta has been a resident of
Patchogue for over 30 years, where he
lives with his wife, the former Miss
Elvira Romeo, and their two daughters, ages 16 and 17.
Frank A. Juzwiak, principal of
Patchogue-Medford High School,
recently presented the Bausch and
Lomb Science Award to Bruce Epstein,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Epstein
of Morris Avenue, North Patchogue.
Bruce plans on majoring in physics in college.
Mr. and Mrs. William Turk of Medford
Avenue, Patchogue, announce the
engagement of their daughter, Laurie,
to Robert Schwinge, son of Mrs. Cecelia
Schwinge of Silver Street, Patchogue,
and the late Edward F. Schwinge.
Miss Turk is a graduate of Patchogue-
Medford High School and is presently
employed as a secretary by Marine
Midland Tinker National Bank. Robert,
a graduate of Patchogue High School,
is employed by Ed’s Communication
Services of Patchogue. An August wedding is planned.
Army Private Garry F. Clasen, 18, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome F. Clasen of
South Prospect Avenue, Patchogue, has
completed eight weeks of basic training
at Fort Jackson, S.C. He received
instruction in drill and ceremonies,
weapons, map reading, combat tactics,
military courtesy, military justice, first aid and Army history.
Patchogue-Medford High School
has turned out an extremely strong
and talented bowling team. Under the
guidance of Coach John Sifaneck, the
Red Raiders find themselves on the
top of League II. The senior members
of the team are Steve Burton, Mike
Dioguardo, Jim Lunati, Tim Mirando and
Chuck Moffett. The rookie members
are Judy Lunati, Bill Niosi, Steven Sanders and Ed Rupp.
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Kronbach of
Florida, formerly of South Ocean
Avenue, Patchogue, have announced
the engagement of their daughter,
Patricia Mary, to Douglas Raymond
Link, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Raymond
Link of Patchogue. Miss Kronbach
attended Patchogue-Medford High
School for three years and is a graduate
of Fernandina Beach High School, Fla.
Mr. Link is a January 1973 graduate of
Patchogue-Medford High School. No

Mrs. Roxanne LaGrega of Clinton
Avenue, East Patchogue, was surprised
at a baby shower given in her honor
at the home of her mother-in-law,
Mrs. Nettie LaGrega of Maple Avenue,
Bellport, on Saturday evening. Many
beautiful gifts were received for the expected baby.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Williams
of South Country Road, Bellport,
recently returned from a one-week
stay in Winter Park, Fla. While there
they attended the 60th anniversary
celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Harris. They also visited Mr. and Mrs.
H.R. Cort of Sun City Center, former residents of Bellport.
Mr. and Mrs. William Wahlfeld
of Beaver Court, Brookhaven, have
made known the engagement of their
daughter, Joanne Wahlfeld, to Joseph
Colosa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Colosa of Hewlett Avenue, East
Patchogue. Miss Wahlfeld is a 1971
graduate of Bellport High School. She
is presently employed at Swan Variety.
Her fiancé graduated from Seton Hall
High School in 1970 and is presently
attending St. John’s University College
of Pharmacy. He is employed at Swan
