The Patchogue Lions Club sponsored
a Halloween dance for teenagers on
Oct. 31 at the South Ocean Avenue
Junior High School. Over 1,000 local
teens enjoyed an evening of fun and
frolic and dancing to a rock and roll
band. Over 30 Lions members acted as
hosts. Charles Burton was chairman of the affair.
U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant
Donald E. Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harold D. Carter of Waverly Avenue,
Patchogue, has been decorated with the
Department of Defense Joint Service
Commendation Medal at Griffiss AFB.
Fall champs, OXO, won the Patchogue
Recreation and Park Department’s
fall softball title with a perfect 14-0
record. Team members included Pat
Cantwell, Tony Lavio, Bob Kavender,
Dave Bradshaw, Dominic Mercurio, Tony
Melito, Red Cantwell, Larry Natale, Tom
Collins, Frank Ambrosio, Mark Speiss
and George Lowe Jr. Coach was George Lowe Sr.
Two-hundred firemen, including
units from Patchogue, North
Patchogue, Bayport, Blue Point,
Bellport and Sayville, battled two fires
from 9:45 p.m. Thursday evening until
10:00 a.m. the next morning. Stanley’s
Bedding and Furniture Company at 44
East Main Street, Patchogue, suffered
severe damage but fortunately,
buildings nearby did not suffer any
damage outside of smoke. At 44 West
Main Street, the Masonic Temple
building, built in 1903, was completely gutted.
The Pine Grove Inn of East Patchogue
has been awarded a special honor by
being invited to membership in World
Famous Restaurants International.
Miss Barbara Ann Patanjo of General
McLean Drive, Bellport, became the
bride of William Cortes Jr., at Mary
Immaculate R.C. Church, Bellport, Oct.
13. The bride is a student in the Mid-
Suffolk School of Practical Nursing.
The groom is employed by Dayton T.
Brown in Bohemia.
The new president of the
Bellport Women’s Golf Club, Betty
Scordamaglia, received the gavel from
outgoing president Iris Silverman at the
final luncheon held at the Bellport Golf
Course restaurant, Oct. 29.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Branch of
Walker Avenue celebrated their 12th
wedding anniversary on Oct. 27 with
their friends and relatives.
John Damask, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Damask of Brewster Lane,
celebrated his 6th birthday on Monday
with a party in his honor with his friends.
Spending the long Veterans Day
weekend with Mrs. David Lanman
of Hulse Street were her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George
Lanman of Hamden, Conn.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Allan had the
honor of celebrating the birthday of
Mrs. Lucy E. Carle of Bellport at their
home on Association Road on Oct. 26.
The party was attended by 35 relatives
and close friends.
The Bellport girls’ field hockey team
finished the season in third place with
a 4-2-2 record. The Clippers were able
to tie the two top teams, but were upset
by two weaker teams, thus kicking
them out of first place. The MVP award
was given to right halfback Maria Buck,
who displayed much skill and speed,
the key to Bellport’s fine record.
Suzanne Lengyel, a senior at Bellport
Senior High School, was recently
notified that she is to be featured
in the 8th annual edition of Who’s
Who Among American High School
Students, 1974-75. Miss Lengyel plans
to attend Ladycliff College in Highland
Falls, N.Y., upon her graduation in June.
Navy Seaman Recruit Charles M.
Condlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H.
Condlin of Heather Avenue, Medford,
graduated from recruit training at the
Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
He is scheduled to report to Electronics
Technician A School, Great Lakes, Ill.

On Dec. 6 the Patchogue-Medford High
School Key Club will present a benefit
concert featuring Harry Chapin. Money
raised will go to charity. “The kids of
this school have been waiting a long
time for a good concert. Now we have
one,” stated Jonathan Glass, president of
the Key Club. Tickets are $5 and can be
purchased at the high school.
Sgt. Otto Brauner of Highland Avenue,
Patchogue, and a member of the Suffolk
County Police Department since 1960, is
retiring after 39 years as a police officer,
effective Jan. 1. Sgt. Brauner, 62, starte
his career with the Patchogue Village
police and joined the county when the
village unit was absorbed into a larger organization.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Deedy of
Washington Avenue, Patchogue,
announce the engagement of their
daughter, Susan, to Christopher P.
Brennan, son of Mrs. Susan Brennan
and the late Mr. Brennan of Levittown.
Miss Deedy is presently attending State
University of New York at Farmingdale,
majoring in medical technology. Mr.
Brennan is a graduate of the New York
State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler
with a Bachelor of Engineering degree
and is presently employed at Bethlehem
Steel Corporation in Hoboken, N.J. An
August wedding is planned.
Crowned Miss New York Jet Majorette
is 8-year-old Jacquie Abrahall of
Rocky Point, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Abrahall, who were formerly of
Patchogue. Jacquie was judged on her
twirling and modeling ability and she
will appear on television at halftime at
one of the Jets games.
Miss Maureen McBride, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McBride of Erving
Avenue, East Patchogue, who is majoring
in nursing at Keuka College, N.Y.,
received her cap during the week of Oct.
12. Mr. and Mrs. McBride were visiting
Maureen for Parents Weekend. She is
spending five weeks on a field period
at the Shriner Hospital for Crippled
Children, Erie, Pa.
Pamela Anne Walton, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert J. Walton of Donegan
Avenue, has entered the freshman class
at Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I.
Eric Rotzinger of General McLean
Drive, Bellport, traveled with friends
to the Bronx on Saturday to see the
first annual New York Federation Cross
Country invitational. Justin Gubbins of
Sayville, Rich Giannino of Selden and
Newfield High School representative
John Pearson also made the trip to the city.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Wallen of
Bellport have announced the engagement
of their daughter, Marllyn Wallen, to Peter
Porpiglia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P.
Porpiglia of Milton, N.Y. The future bride
is a graduate of Bellport High School and
is attending Cornell University graduate
school. She is the granddaughter of Mrs.
John Wallen Sr. of Bellport. Mr. Porpiglia
will receive a Bachelor of Science degree
from Cornell in June 1975. An August
wedding is planned.
At the November meeting of the Rosary
Altar Society of Mary Immaculate
Church, the election of officers was
held. Elected to office were Mrs. Marilyn
Kieley, president; Mrs. Carol LeBrun, vice
president; Mrs. Joan Goger, treasurer,
and Mrs. Terry Cardamone, secretary.

Recent winner of a 10-horsepower
Mercury engine is Charles Marquardt
of Sayville, who won the 1975 Mercury
Calendar Sweepstakes sponsored by
Patchogue Marine. He was presented
with the engine by Rusty Carpenter,
general sales manager for Patchogue Marine.
Joanne Palmieri, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Palmieri of Patchogue,
appeared in the Southwestern College
drama department’s presentation of
“Street Scene” on Nov. 15-18. She is a
junior speech and drama major.
Joan Detweiler, currently a senior at
Nyack College, Nyack, has been named
to the Dean’s List. Joan is a music
education major and plans to pursue a
career as a music teacher.
The Patchogue Village Recreation
and Parks Department’s men’s football
league wrapped up its season last
Sunday with Sybelle Carpet finishing
the season with a 9-1 mark. Gary Parris
of True Value was presented the
village’s trophy as the league’s high
scorer. He registered 133 points, which
was 46 points better than Gallery Pub’s
John Gomes, who had 87. Ted Kalivas
and Tom Collins each had 68, Wayne
Atkins 62, and Jim Fabian 60.
Airman Patrick E. Garland, son of
Mrs. M. Garland of Chapel Avenue,
Patchogue, has graduated at Lackland
AFB, Texas, from the U.S. Air Force
security policeman course conducted
by the Air Training Command.
Airman Garland is a 1974 graduate of
Patchogue-Medford High School.
Miss Patricia Shannon, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Shannon
of Patchogue, was married to Ronald
Ailman, son of Mr. and Mrs. William
G. Ailman of Honolulu, Hawaii, Oct.
5 in St. Francis de Sales R.C. Church, Patchogue.
Mr. and Mrs. John Ince of Browns
Lane, Bellport, spent four days visiting
friends in Baltimore, Md.
George Mistler of Woodland Park
Road spent one week visiting his
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Strier of Gilford, N.Y.
While there Mr. Mistler enjoyed many
hours of hunting and returned home
victorious with his prize trophy buck.
The Country Greens Gourmet Club
met on Saturday evening at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cornacchiulo,
featuring Mexican dishes for the dinner.
Enjoying the Mexican delicacies were
Mr. and Mrs. James Giattino, Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph DeMaio, Mr. and Mrs. A.
McInturff and Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Tutino.
Roger Evan Modon, a senior at
Bellport High School and National
Merit Letter of Commendation winner,
has been nominated by the president
of the United States to compete for
appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
Linda Prybyzerski, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Prybyzerski
of Circuit Road, celebrated her 9th
birthday on Friday. A pizza party was
enjoyed by Jane Tiffany, Janet Ryan,
Diane Bono, Lea Ann Toronto, Theresa
Coleman, and Debbie Diecidue, all of
Bellport, and Sabrina and Edna Huber of Patchogue.
Marine Lance Corporal Andrew
Salvo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Antino G.
Salvo of Middle Road, Blue Point, was
promoted to his present rank while
serving at the Marine Corps Base,
Camp Lejeune, N.C. A 1973 graduate
of Bayport High School, he joined the
Marine Corps in January 1973.
A 50th wedding anniversary for Mr.
and Mrs. John E. Davis of Yaphank
was held at the Yaphank firehouse
Saturday night, with some 230 guests
present for the happy occasion.
Marine Pfc. Cleve E. Wallace, son of
Mrs. Clara M. Wallace of Medford, was
promoted to his present rank while
serving with the 2nd Marine Division
at the Marine Corps Base, Camp
Lejeune, N.C. He joined the Marine
Corps in February 1972.

The entire New York and Long
Island delegations of the Loyal Order
of Moose will gather at the Nassau
Coliseum on Jan. 5 for Moose Day with
the New York Nets, champions of the
American Basketball Association. The
1974 Phantom Regiment will perform at
halftime. Tickets are available through
Jimmy’s Shoe Repair on South Ocean
Avenue, Patchogue; Jerry’s gas station,
corner of Medford Avenue and East
Main Street, Patchogue; Circle D Corral
on Montauk Highway, East Patchogue,
and from Tom Dioguardo at the Lodge.
Marine Lance Corporal David Johnsen,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Gil Johnsen of
Amity Street, Patchogue, was promoted
to his present rank while serving at New
River Air Station, Jacksonville, N.C. A
1973 graduate of Patchogue-Medford
High School, he joined the Marine Corps in September 1973.
Mrs. Guy Newham of River Avenue
is the winner of $229.50 refunded to
her on the basis of shopping Patchogue
Merchants Division stores last week.
Mrs. Newham presented sales slips
totaling that amount to the Patchogue
Chamber of Commerce and the refund
was presented to her at Carl and Bob’s,
one of the member stores where Mrs.
Newham had shopped.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bebee of
Patchogue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Susan Mary Pierce,
to William Weeks, son of Joseph Weeks
of Patchogue and the late Mrs. Jean
Weeks. Miss Pierce is the daughter of
the late Julius J. Pierce. The wedding is
planned for June 1975.
The winner of the third annual
Spelling Bee held at the Oregon Avenue
Middle School is seventh-grader Debbie
Klag, who barely edged out fellow
classmate Chris Halpin. Debbie will now
face other winners in the Patchogue-
Medford district for the right to compete
in the Long Island finals.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Russo of Edwards
Street, Patchogue, have announced the
engagement of their daughter, Bobbie,
to Peter Heller of Queens. The future
bride is a 1972 graduate of the Catholic
Medical Center School of Nursing and
is presently employed at the Mt. Sinai
Hospital in New York City. Her fiancé
is a graduate of Adelphi University. A
February wedding is planned.
Marine Lance Corporal Santo
DiStefano, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
DiStefano of Lillian Place, Patchogue,
was promoted to his present rank while
serving at the Marine Corps Air Station,
Beaufort, S.C. A graduate of Patchogue
High School, he joined the Marine Corps in July 1973.
Footing top honors for Patchogue-
Medford High School during the recent
soccer season was John Lento, who was
selected by the coaches to be a member
of the All-County team.
Miss Madeline Iovino, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Iovino of East
Patchogue, has been named to the
Dean’s List for the spring 1974 semester
at Ladycliff College, Highland Falls.
Mr. and Mrs. Rolf Michelsen of Titus
Lane, Bellport, just returned from a twoweek
visit with Mr. Michelsen’s sister
and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Hoyer, in Marbella, Spain.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rene Sr. and their
children, Diana, Joe and Peter of Maple
Avenue, were dinner guests at the home
of Mrs. Loretta Tebaldi of McDonald
Avenue on Thanksgiving Day.
Spending the weekend with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pendergast
of Maple Street, were Miss Maryann
Pendergast of New York City and Joseph
Pendergast Jr., of New Jersey.
Mrs. Mathilda Manser of Academy
Lane just returned from a 14-day trip to
the Hawaiian Islands. On her return trip
she spent two days in Los Angeles and
visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Manser.
Miss Aileen Reilly was home
from Princeton University for the
Thanksgiving weekend visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Reilly of
Livingston Road. Miss Reilly’s guest
for the weekend was her roommate
at Princeton, Miss Linda Kamps of Northbrook, Ill.
Miss Julie Bergin was home for six
days during the Thanksgiving weekend
from New York State University at
Cortland visiting her mother, Mrs.
Edward Bergin of Thornhedge Road.
John Grace, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Grace of Bellport, recently concluded
his first year on the Allegheny College
cross country team. Grace helped the
Gator runners to a 5-4 overall dualmeet
record, a 5-2 Presidents Athletic
Conference slate, and a third-place
finish at the PAC championships. A
freshman at the college, he is a graduate
of Bellport High School.
