The magic word was: chronological.
Lori Felice of West Main Street,
Patchogue, won the Saxton Street
Middle School Spelling Contest by
spelling this special word correctly.
Competing against sixth-, seventhand
eighth-grade spelling champs,
Lori will now represent her school in
another spelling contest with two other
schools in Patchogue and the winner
will compete at the State University at
Farmingdale on March 12 in the Long
Island Championship finals.
Count Basie and his Orchestra will
perform in concert in the Patchogue-
Medford High School auditorium on
Dec. 19. Jack Ellsworth, announcer
for WALK Radio, will be master of ceremonies.

High School Students 1973-74 is
Brian Hawkins of Ketcham Avenue,
Patchogue, a student at Patchogue-
Medford High School.
Private John R. Latronica, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Pat Latronica of Patchogue,
completed a field artillery survey
specialist course at the U.S. Army Field
Artillery School, Fort Sill, Okla.
Charles Rohde of Oxbow Road,
Patchogue, and Mrs. A.H. Hilliard
of Orange Park, Fla., announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Deborah Ann Rohde, to Thomas Patrick
Rett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W.
Rett of Orange Park, Fla. The bride, a
graduate of Orange Park High School,
attended Patchogue High School. The
groom is a graduate of Orange Park
High School. The wedding date has
been set for June 28, 1975.
John M. Bonner of Patchogue has
been elected to the Gear and Triangle
Honor Society at Stevens Institute of
Technology. A junior at the engineering
and science college, he is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John J. Bonner and is a
graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School.
Jay Damask, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Damask of Brewster Lane,
Bellport, celebrated his 7th birthday
on Dec. 6 with a party in his honor with
several of his friends.
Mrs. Catherine Stephani of
Narragansett Avenue, East Patchogue,
was honored Dec. 1 at a party in honor
of her 85th birthday at the Bellport
Country Club. Since Mrs. Stephani’s
favorite color is red, all the decorations
such as tablecloths, candles and
flowers were in red. Mrs. Stephani has
11 children, 59 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren, who live all over the U.S.
The Kreamer Street schoolchildren
are participating in a Campbells label
drive. To date, the children have brought
in 6,000 labels. The winning class for the
month of November was Miss Timm’s
third-grade class and the children will
enjoy a soup and cracker party.
Miss Mabel F. Bird, formerly of
Bellport and now a resident of the Adult
Home on South Shore, Patchogue,
celebrated her 90th birthday recently.
She lived in Bellport for 24 years before
taking up residence at the adult home.
Miss Bird worked as a secretary in this
area before retiring in her 79th year.
Airman Steven Johnson, son of
retired U.S. Navy Petty Officer and
Mrs. William Johnson of Walker
Avenue, Bellport, has been assigned to
Sheppard AFB, Texas, after completing
Air Force basic training. Airman
Johnson is a 1974 graduate of Bellport High School.
Jeffrey Dallin, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Dallin of Country Club Road,
recently celebrated his first birthday
with a party in his honor for relatives and friends.
Ellen Fink, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Murray Fink of Chapel Avenue,
Brookhaven, returned home yesterday
from Tampa University, Fla., for the
Christmas holidays.
Sgt. James C.A. Molone, son of Mr.
and Mrs. James C. Molone of Medford,
has graduated from the Strategic
Air Command’s 15th Air Force Non-
Commissioned Officer Leadership
School at March AFB, Calif. He is a
personnel specialist at March.

Susie Ahrens of Patchogue and
Pauline Lelaidier of Center Moriches
recently received Special Achievement
Awards for their superior work
performance at the Internal Revenue
Service center in Holtsville. Both Susie
and Pauline are in the examination
branch at the center.
Local “elves” gathered Sunday
under the Christmas tree at the
Congregational Church in Patchogue,
where they surveyed the 138 gifts
they are giving this year to needy
children in the area. Included in the
group were Cheryl Gustafson, Shari
Capehart, Janice Berman, Lori Haas,
Phyllis Deedy, Lynn Lechtrecker,
John D’Ambrosio, Thomas Luby, Cory
McKibbin, Arthur Tilto and Brian
Wilson. “This is an example of the good
kids are doing today,” said teacher
Nan Lechtrecker, who supervised the
Sunday School project.
Pharmacist Constance Still
of Still’s Pharmacy on Medford
Avenue, Patchogue, spoke on Never
Abuse, Respect Drugs at Patchogue-
Medford High School, Dec. 9 and
11, as part of an extensive national
program undertaken by the National
Association of Retail Druggists to
bring education about drug use to the
community level.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Engel of Roe
Boulevard, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Maureen, to Kenneth Felice, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Louis F. Felice of Lakeland
Avenue, Patchogue. Both are 1969
graduates of Patchogue High School.
The future bride is currently employed
as a dental assistant in the office of Dr.
Steven B. Hoffman in Holbrook and
her fiancé is associated in business
with his father at Felice’s Texaco in
Patchogue. No date has been set for the wedding.
Airman Robert M. McDonnell, son
of Mr. and Mrs. B. McDonnell of
Patchogue, has graduated at Chanute
AFB, Ill., from the U.S. Air Force
aircraft mechanic course conducted
by the Air Training Command.
Charlie Corsi, formerly of East
Patchogue and now of Fullerton, Calif.,
would like to wish all his old friends
from 3,000 miles away a very merry
Christmas and a happy, prosperous
New Year. Mr. Corsi graduated from
Bellport High School in 1960. He is a
licensed real estate broker and part
owner of Red Carpet Realtors.
Robert P. Gomes of Munsell Road,
East Patchogue, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Valley Forge Military
Academy, Wayne, Pa.
Melanie Crane, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Alan Crane of Country Greens
Drive, Bellport, celebrated her first
birthday on Dec. 8 with a family party n her honor.
Lee and Douglas Paige will arrive
home today to spend the Christmas
holidays with their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Peter Paige of Gerard Street. Lee
is attending the University of Colorado
in Boulder, and Douglas is a teacher
at the Thompson Academy in Boston, Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Munson of
Bellport Lane entertained members
of the South Bay Art Association on
Sunday for a Christmas cocktail party.
Phillip Brame of Walker Avenue,
Bellport, has enlisted in the U.S.
Marine Corps, taking advantage of the
corps’ Ground Guarantee program,
which allows young men and women
to choose the occupation field of
their choice prior to enlistment. After
completion of boot camp at Parris
Island, S.C., Brame will serve in the
administration field.
Airman James A. Reiss, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank L. Reiss of Thornhedge
Road, Bellport, has been assigned to
Keesler AFB, Miss., after completing
Air Force basic training, for specialized
training in the armament systems
field. Airman Reiss is a 1974 graduate
of Bellport High School.
The Sou’wester Bookshop in Bellport
will hold its annual Christmas party
tomorrow evening. Jan and Kathleen
Oosting will sing and play Christmas
carols. The public is invited free of charge.

The highest score among 1,600
Suffolk County winners of Regents
scholarships was achieved by a
Patchogue-Medford High School
student, James C. Olson, of Roe Avenue,
East Patchogue. He scored 281 in a 300 item examination.
Marine Lance Corporal David J.
Johnsen of Amity Street, Patchogue,
was promoted to his present rank
while serving at the New River Marine
Corps Air Station, Jacksonville, N.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Fenz of Mott Street,
Patchogue, recently received a check for
$112.53 from the Patchogue Chamber
of Commerce, which represented
a total refund of their purchases for
shopping in member stores last week.
It was a Merry Christmas for Mr. and Mrs. Fenz.
Branch Chief James Hughes of the
IRS Center at Holtsville presented
a Special Achievement Award to
Lula T. Coman of Patchogue for her
outstanding work performance, and a
Suggestion Award to Clarice Vermaat,
also of Patchogue, for her suggestion
of color-coding a much-used form.
Graduating from recruit training at
the Naval Training Center, Great Lakes,
Ill., are Charles L. Samolinski, son of
Mr. and Mrs. William J. Samolinski

Krygier, a senior at Patchogue-Medford
High School. She is active in the Anchor
Club and Girl Scouts.
Happy couple are Mr. and Mrs.
Charles David Martino. The bride is the
former Miss June Budd Morris. They
are 1970 graduates of Patchogue High
School. After spending a week traveling
through upstate New York, they will
make their home in Patchogue.
Louis Zanfardino, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Zanfardino of Cedar Avenue,
Patchogue, has been commissioned a
second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force
upon graduation from officer training
school at Lackland AFB, Texas. A 1966
graduate of Patchogue High School,
he received his BS degree in education
from Kansas State Teachers College.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Penzer of
Elmer Street, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Cecelia, to Mr. Timothy Drake, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Drake of Sterling
Avenue, East Patchogue. The future
bride is a 1974 graduate of Patchogue-
Medford High School and is presently
employed as a secretary for Nesenger
Chevrolet of Patchogue. Mr. Drake is
also a graduate of Patchogue-Medford
High School and is presently employed
at the Pine Grove Inn, East Patchogue.
An October 1975 wedding is being planned.

Mrs. William H. Briggs of New York
City spent Christmas with Mr. and
Mrs. Clarke Williams of South Country Road.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kiely
of Maple Street are Mrs. Kiely’s sister
and brother-in-law, Lt. and Mrs.
Robert McAleer and son, Peter, of
Tokyo. Mr. and Mrs. Kiely and Mr.
and Mrs. McAleer attended the Rotary
Christmas party on Friday evening as
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bono of East Patchogue.
Mrs. Genevieve DeLeva of Norton
Street, Patchogue, announces the
engagement of her daughter, Debbie,
to Edward Santo, son of Edward Santo

winners at the Bellport Women’s Golf
Club were Olga Roe, Mary Greaves,

Libby Orr, Rosemarie Ladick, June
Rosenblatt and Elaine Truetsky.
Rita Harder, a Brown University
sophomore from Bellport, is a member
of Brown’s 1974-75 Pandas, a women’s
ice hockey team. The Pandas will travel
to Montreal for a tournament in early
February. Rita is the daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Joseph A. Harder of Academy
Lane and is studying engineering at Brown.

The last reminder of the November
fire that destroyed the 30-year-old
building of Stanley’s Furniture and
Bedding Co. along East Main Street in
Patchogue was left as rubble and ruin
that was swept away last Saturday, as a
Central Islip wrecking crew completed
its demolition work. A spokesman
for Stanley’s indicated that the firm
will definitely rebuild and open for
business again, on the same location,
“as soon as possible.”
For the 11th year in a row, Mrs. Santa
Claus, better known as Mrs. Lucille
Dobson of Schroeder Lane, Patchogue,
has made her annual trip to Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York
City to spread some Christmas cheer
among the children who are patients
there. Each year Mrs. Dobson gathers
toys, cookies and gifts from friends and
merchants in the Patchogue area to
distribute to the patients.
Featured in the eighth annual edition
of Who’s Who Among American High
School Students will be Deanna D.
Wade, a senior at Patchogue-Medford
High School and the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Rodney Wade of Pennsylvania
Avenue, Medford. Deanna is planning
to attend the Wilma Boyd Airline and Travel School.
Mr. and Mrs. John Clemente of
Harris Street, Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Connie, to George Wit, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. Wit of Middleton, N.Y. Miss
Clemente is a graduate of Patchogue
High School and is employed as a
registered nurse at Horton Hospital in
Middleton. Her fiancé is employed as a
sales representative for John Deere. A
summer wedding is planned.
Cindy Kleinman, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Abe Kleinman of Patchogue,
graduated from the University
of Maryland with a BA degree in
secondary English education. She is
returning to Maryland, where she will
begin teaching seventh-grade English in January.
Albert J. Perrotto Jr. of East
Patchogue announces the engagement
of his daughter, Elizabeth Mary, to
Louis Gervey, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Aaron Gervey of Jamaica Avenue,
Medford. Miss Perrotto is a 1973
graduate of Seton Hall High School
and is presently attending Dowling
College. Mr. Gervey is a 1970 graduate
of Patchogue High School and Suffolk
Community College and will graduate
from Dowling College in May 1975. No
date has been set for the wedding.
The Bellport Ambulance Company
held its annual Christmas party Dec. 21,
put together by a committee consisting
of Julie Whalley, Chris Bergskaug, Terry
Perino and Karen Hermus. A plaque
was presented to Dr. Leigh Bell for his
over-15 years of dedication and service.
The wheelbarrow full of cheer was won
by Buster Fuoco of East Patchogue.
Miss Wendlyn Smith of Liverpool,
N.Y. returned on Saturday after
spending the Christmas holiday with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rowland
Smith of Station Road. Mr. and Mrs.
Smith entertained at an eggnog party
on Thursday for their friends.
Miss Audrey Snyder, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Peter Snyder, returned on
Christmas Eve from a four-month trip
with the World Campus Afloat. Besides
the education aboard the ship, Miss
Snyder visited South America and the Middle East.
Airman Kevin K. Northcutt, son of
Mr. and Mrs. George J. Northcutt of
Station Road, Bellport, has graduated
at Sheppard AFB, Texas, from the
U.S. Air Force aircraft mechanic
course conducted by the Air Training
Command, and is being assigned to
Holloman AFB, N.M., for duty with a
unit of the Tactical Air Command. He
attended Bellport Senior High School.
Golden anniversary was celebrated
by Mr. and Mrs. Alexander B. Inniss
of Medford, who were married Dec.
21, 1924 at John Wesley Methodist
Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. The
couple renewed their vows at St.
Leonard’s Afro-American Orthodox
Church in Brooklyn and then were
guests of honor at a reception and
dinner for 170 guests at the Fleur de Lis
Banquet Hall in Brooklyn.
