The first baby of the new year born
at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital
was Jeremy Collins, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Gregory Collins of Moriches.
Daniel Edward Patton of Mastic made
his appearance six minutes and six
seconds after Jeremy Collins was born.
Births at Brookhaven Memorial in 1974
reached the highest number since the
hospital opened 18 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hanlon of
Wiggins Avenue, Patchogue, announce
the enlistment of their son, Joseph
Patrick, in the Air Force. Joseph is
currently stationed at Lackland
AFB, Texas, and has recently become
engaged to Miss Wendy Sue Barnhardt
of Leicester, N.Y. A spring wedding is
planned.
After losing their first four games,
the Patchogue Red Raiders’ basketball
team had an impressive 86-77 win over
Centereach last week. Good scoring
balance came from Billy Thieben with
24 points, 23 from Bud Jennings, 17
from Leroy Felton and 10 from Jim
Jennings.
Michael Tortorella of Jayne Avenue,
Patchogue, has been named to the
Dean’s List at Florida Technological
University in Orlando.
Arthur Felice of Mulford Street,
Patchogue, announces the engagement
of his daughter, Dawn, to Thomas Moore,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moore of
Woodacres Road, East Patchogue. Miss
Felice is a 1972 graduate of Patchogue
High School. Mr. Moore is a graduate
of Bellport High School. No date has
been set for the wedding.
Navy Lithographer Seaman
Salvatore W. Rosamelia, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Amato of Long Island
Avenue, Medford, reported for duty
aboard the destroyer tender USS
Piedmont, homeported at Naples, Italy.
A graduate of Patchogue High School,
he joined the Navy in July 1972.
Patchogue-Medford High School’s
annual all-school musical is now in
the process of being produced. The
show this year is “Finian’s Rainbow,”
directed by Bert Pollock, with Henry
Jansen playing the leading role.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Cartwright of
Maple Avenue, Bellport, announce
the engagement of their daughter,
Monica, to Raymond Ventrice, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Ventrice of
Orchard Road, East Patchogue. Both
are graduates of Bellport High School.
No date has been set for the wedding.
George Rose of Donegan Avenue,
East Patchogue, has been nominated
to Who’s Who Among Students in
American Universities and Colleges,
along with 45 other students at the
State University College at Fredonia.
Returning on Thursday to
Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.,
was Miss Peggy Thorndike, who was
home spending the holidays with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Thorndike
of South Howells Point Road, Bellport.
The Kreamer Street Elementary
School PTO has completed counting
the Campbell’s labels from their recent
drive. They are happy to announce
that the school will receive the Kodak
carousel projector and the Kodak
remote extension cord from this drive.
A special word of thanks to Mrs.
Connie Albin, who chaired the drive,
and to first-grade teachers Mrs. Louise
Rossi and Mrs. Betty Weldon.
Mr. and Mrs. Franklyn Overton and
sons, Jeff and Brad, have returned
after spending the Christmas and New
Year holidays in the Hawaiian Islands.

Pvt. 2/c William Cicci, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Julius Cicci of North
Prospect Avenue, Patchogue, recently
graduated from basic combat training
at Fort Dix, N.J. He is now attending
a voice radio operators course at Fort Dix.
Benefit basketball will be played at
the Patchogue-Medford High School
gym this Sunday starting at 2:30 p.m.,
when the school district’s all-star
faculty squad takes on a contingent of
major league baseball stars including
the Yankees’ Thurman Munson and
John Milner of the Mets. Players
will be available for autographs and
pictures. Tickets are $2 for adults and $1 for students.
The Sybelle Carpet football
club, representing the Village of
Patchogue, has reached the final
round of the Long Island Touch
Football Tournament of Champions,
to be played this Sunday in Garden
City. Coached by Whitey Leavandosky,
team players include Jim Fabian, Bob
Knight, Sam Paniaci, Mike Fabian,
Bob Mosher, Pee Wee Smith and Mac Jackson.
Mr. and Mrs. William A. Larkin of
Patchogue announce the engagement
of their daughter, Patricia Ann Larkin,
to John P. Lenihan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Lenihan of West Islip.
Miss Larkin is a 1972 graduate of
Patchogue High School and attended
Suffolk Community College for
secretarial science. Mr. Lenihan is
a 1972 graduate of West Islip High
School and is presently in his junior
year at Dowling College, majoring in
business administration. No date has
been set for the wedding.
Ms. Michele Jastrow, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Julius Jastrow of Maple
Avenue, Patchogue, received a 4.0 and
was named to the Dean’s List for
the past semester at Arizona State
University. Ms. Joanne Jastrow, twin
sister of Michele, received a 3.7 and is
also on the Dean’s List in the College
of Business at Arizona State. Michele
is majoring in criminal justice and
Joanne in marketing and advertising.
Pam Wood, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Wood of East Patchogue,
will be listed in Who’s Who Among
American High School Students, 1973-
74. Pam is a senior at Bellport High
School, where she is sports editor of
the school newspaper and president
of the Leaders Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Angelo DiDio of New
Jersey Avenue, Bellport, entertained
at a family dinner on Christmas Day
and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Reynolds of
Buffalo, N.Y. spent New Year’s week with them.
Mr. and Mrs. John Villano of
Woodland Park Road spent the
Christmas and New Year’s holidays
in Geyserville, Calif., visiting their
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Larry Carr and their children.
Returning to Geneseo College in
Geneseo, N.Y. on Sunday was Miss
Peggy Ann Wilson, who is in her
freshman year. Her brother, Jim
Wilson, will return to Potsdam College
tomorrow. Both Peggy Ann and Jim
were home visiting their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Wilson of Country
Club Road for the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gillespie of
Pine Street, Brookhaven, celebrated
their 25th wedding anniversary on
Jan. 5. A party was given by their
daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley
and Vincent Costanzo and Michele
and William Robatin, at the Bellport
Golf and Tennis Club for 50 friends and relatives.

On Jan. 15, five students from the
PatchogueMedford Public Schools
competed to select the best speller in grades 58.
The winner of the contest was
Barbara Buhler, a seventhgrader from
the South Ocean Avenue Middle School.
Barbara won the contest by spelling “laziness.”
Airman John J. Wall, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Wall of Theresa Court,
Patchogue, has graduated at Lackland
AFB, Texas, from the U.S. Air Force
security policeman course conducted
by the Air Training Command. Airman
Wall is a 1974 graduate of PatchogueMedford High School.
Mrs. Jeri Clendennen of Blue Point,
physical education teacher and coach
at PatchogueMedford High School for
the past 16 years, will receive an Honor
Award at the NYS Coaches Association
convention on Jan. 25. She helped to
inaugurate girls’ interscholastic sports
and has coached the bowling team to a
county championship.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo DiDonato of South
Country Road, East Patchogue, announce
the engagement of their daughter, Patti-
Ann, to Steven J. Gehrke, son of Mr.
and Mrs. August Gradilone of Hedges
Avenue, East Patchogue. Miss DiDonato
is a senior at Bellport High School. Mr.
Gehrke is a graduate of Bellport High
School. Both are employed by Advance
Pest Control Co., owned by Mr. DiDonato.
A September 1975 wedding is planned.
Robert Mc Cleary of South Country
Road, Bellport, was honored at a party
recently at the Knights of Columbus Hall
in Patchogue in honor of his retirement.
Bill Tunney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Tunney of Cedar Street, has been trying
to beat the record of pogostick jumping.
Bill gave it another try last Wednesday
and did 8,427 jumps on his pogo stick in
one hour. The record for 1974 was 14,325.
Miss Joey Herrera of Baycrest Lane
spent one week visiting friends at the
University of Maine.

Patty Cornacchiulo, son of Mr. and

Greens Drive, celebrated his 6th birthday
on Saturday with a party in his honor.

London bound is Vinnie Abbott, a
Bellport hairdresser who left Sunday
to study new haircutting, coloring and
styling techniques at the Vidal Sassoon
TeachIn, Jan. 1927 in London, England.
Mr. Abbott has been in the hairstyling
business in Bellport and surrounding
areas for the past 14 years.

J. Davis Mannino, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Mannino of Jayne Avenue,
Patchogue, has been appointed a special
social work consultant to Pinang State
in Malaysia. He has been a Peace Corps
volunteer since last August. A graduate
of Patchogue High School Class of 1968,
Mr. Mannino received his BA from Stony
Brook University and his MSW from San
Francisco State University.
Miss Kathy Snow, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Snow of Cilhowie, Va.,
became the bride of Gordon Wright, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wright of Patchogue,
on Dec. 28 at the First Church of God, Chilhowie.
Charles Groppe, a Patchogue resident
attending Utica College of Syracuse
University, has been selected to appear
in the 41st edition of Who’s Who Among
Students in American Universities and
Colleges. Groppe, son of Mrs. Gloria
Robertaccio of Cedar Avenue, Patchogue,
and Charles Groppe of Bayport, is a senior
majoring in accounting at Utica. He is
president of the senior class.
There was nothing ordinary about
the football season Kevin Rooney packed
together for the Patchogue Red Raiders.
Coach Marty Hoctor recently presented
his top running back with the game ball
on the afternoon Rooney raced 293 yards
to set a school record. Rooney was also
selected to all-league, all-county and all-
Long Island squads in recognition of
his talents. He will attend Northwestern
Oklahoma University.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl SanDomenico of
Academy Street, Patchogue, recently
observed their golden wedding
anniversary. Taking part in the observance
were the two official witnesses to the Dec.
15, 1924 ceremony, Mrs. Thomas Murray
of Patchogue, who was maid of honor,
and Walter McGregor of Patchogue and
Rahway, N.J., who was best man.
Michael Ambrosio, a senior at
Patchogue-Medford High School and the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ambrosio of
Cedar Avenue, Patchogue, will be featured
in the 8th annual edition of Who’s Who
Among American High School Students
1973-74. He is active in varsity football,
basketball and baseball and a member of
the National Honor Society.
Tom Vignato, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Vignato of East Masem Square, East
Patchogue, celebrated his 6th birthday
on Saturday with a party in his honor.

celebrating her birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Irving Coleman of

engagement of their daughter, Lisabeth,
to Fred Hollmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred

A spring 1976 wedding is planned. Miss
Cathy Coleman returned recently to
Winthrop School for Girls in Rock Hill,
S.C. She received word that she is on the
Dean’s List. She is majoring in physical
education and is in her senior year.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cassidy of Robinson
Avenue, Medford, celebrated their
wedding anniversary this past week.
Their children, John, Michael and Patty,
helped make the occasion joyous.

Deanna Wade, a senior at Patchogue-
Medford High School, was recently
named that school’s winner of the
1974-75 Betty Crocker Family Leader
of Tomorrow designation. She is now
eligible to vie for state and national
awards.
Elizabeth Jane McCafferty of Patchogue
completed work on her Bachelor of
Arts degree at West Virginia Wesleyan
College at the close of the first semester.
Her diploma will be awarded at the May
23 commencement. The daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John McCafferty of Jayne
Avenue, she was an art major.
Army Private Roberto Soto, 17, son
of Mrs. Clara Soto of East Main Street,
Patchogue, is assigned to a construction
specialist in Company A, 1st Engineer
Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division at
Fort Riley, Kan.
Over 60 guests gathered on Jan. 26
at the Knights of Columbus Hall for a
surprise birthday celebration for Miss
Catherine Brandi. Relatives traveled
from Brooklyn, upstate New York and
New Jersey for this affair given by her
brother, Angelo Brandi, and her mother,
Mrs. Jennie Brandi of Cleveland Street.
Anita Carlino, daughter of Mrs. Louis
Carlino of Patchogue, has been accepted
and has begun studies at Southern
College in Orlando, Fla. She is majoring
in dental assisting.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Backes of Hedges
Avenue, East Patchogue, attended the
Hagerman Fire Department’s 45th
annual Inspection Dinner, held at
Felice’s on Feb. 1. Mr. Backes received a
special award at this time.
Mr. and Mrs. William Bonyun
of Wiscasset, Maine, formerly of
Brookhaven and Bellport, spent five
days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Donald Streit
of Browns Lane, Bellport.
Spending the weekend visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Temple of Fairway
Drive were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mesko
and family of Emmaus, Pa.
Magda DeJesus, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jose DeJesus of Bellport
Avenue, will play the role of Viney in
William Gibson’s drama, The Miracle
Worker, when it opens Feb. 19 in the
Little Theatre of Centenary College for
Women.
Mr. Warren Intemann of Beaverbrook
Drive, Brookhaven, celebrated his
birthday on Jan. 8. Also celebrating
her birthday on that day was his
future daughter-in-law, Betsy Hard of
Brookhaven. A lovely family celebration
was held.
Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Leistman of Old South Country
Road, celebrated her 10th birthday with
a dinner and slumber party last Friday
evening. To help Jane celebrate were
Katherine Waters, Judy Redman, Mandy
