Spring Tide: A Day for the Inlet
That's the name of a local community organization that brings
volunteers from all over together on one Sunday a year to gather trash out of
our inlet and off our roadsides in Murrells Inlet. This year will be the 18th
year for this event, and will be held on Sunday, April 26th.
There's no need to sign up or register, but headquarters will be at the gazebo
behind the Hot Fish Club Restaurant, next to Morse Landing Park on the south end
of Business 17 in Murrells Inlet. Beginning at 9 am, volunteers can come to get
trash bags to use for trash off the roadsides, and bring in trash off the inlet
or roads to go into the dumpsters ready and waiting.
At 12:30 p m, the Murrells Inlet Chowder Cookoff will be held, many of the
Inlet's restaurants competing for the "Best Damn Chowder" award. Volunteer
workers get to feast on the chowders, along with pork and chicken barbecue and
all the trimmings. Local musicians will play, and door prizes awarded until 4
pm.
Those who have participated in this event, and can tell you how rewarding and
how much fun it is. Bring work gloves, sunscreen, and a boat or pickup truck if
you have one. and join the fun while we tidy up our inlet and community for
another season.
