The old saying " an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" has never been more true, and with new car sales declining at record paces; it is obvious that consumers will be keeping their current vehicles longer. Here at North Gate Tire & Muffler we have noticed this trend as well. The average mileage on the cars and trucks we service has increased nearly 22% since we begin recording the odometer readings at our stores. Many automotive sources predict that this trend will continue, and with higher mileage vehicles come more problems; however, knowing how to recognize the signs for potential problems early can save time, money and the inconvenience of having your car in the shop.
For example, during day-to-day driving, potholes & and poor road conditions can cause the position of a vehicles' steering system to become out of alignment. When not aligned the driver has to slightly off set the steering wheel to drive straight (often very difficult to notice); this adds stress on the tires and over a very short period they will have to be replaced. So a $59-$65 fix, now results in a new set of tires which on average are $400-$650.
Being pro-active toward customer education is not a new idea here at North Gate Tire & Muffler; we consistently speak to the driver's education classes at Socastee High School about preventive maintenance, understanding their cars & trucks, and teaching the tell-tell signs for upcoming problems. A stop by the store, while learning to drive, and demonstrating to the instructor their ability to check the tire pressure has even become part of their final exam!
This approach toward customer education is why we made our presentation to the Fiftys Plus Group. Our belief that properly providing for the customer's needs is why we have be serving Horry County and the Grand Strand for over 42 years, and we are confident that this investment in customer education, during difficult times, will create loyal and continued support for the next four decades as well.
