"Let me put it this way, Mr. Amer, The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error."

Take the letters IBM, and change each one to the preceding letter in the alaphabet, and you have HAL.  Without a doubt the most evil and deadly computer the world has ever seen, HAL9000 was quite simply, a badass.

When Stanely Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke wrote the film 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY in 1968, they had no idea what sort monster they were unleashing.

Eric Stobie wrote, "HAL9000 was the epitome of AI gone wrong and taking mankind down in the process...when a machine starts saying things like, "Dave, will i dream?" and "Dave, I'm scared" in that monotone manner, it honestly leaves me disturbed, like something in the very fiber of my being feeling not right about it."
