Any team that takes the court against Suffolk CC-Selden has to deal with the streak No, not the impressive tally of consecutive wins that makes the Clippers the team to beat in the Region XV men's basketball tournament. This streak describes the way Suffolk scorches the hardwood floor as it tears down the court.
It is almost too fast to see, measured only by the furious ticks on the scoreboard that twitch and twinkle like a disco ball.
No. 1 Suffolk streaked to a 74-42 win over Rockland CC in a quarterfinal at Sullivan CC Friday night. The Clippers (29-0) will take their 47 straight wins into Saturday's semifinal against Sullivan, a team it beat by seven in the regular season.
Suffolk showcased its knack for putting distance between itself and an opponent like an NHRA dragster. One moment No. 8 Rockland (9-19) was sitting at the red light revving its engine next to the Clippers; the next it needed binoculars to see them Suffolk had separate runs of  7-0, 8-0 and 10-0 in the first half, and its 40-20 halftime lead cleared the gym like a skunk
"We wanted to get them out of here early and not waste a lot of energy on them," said Maurice Manning, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Suffolk "This was a nice little warm-up for the big game (Saturday)."
Marcele Street, who missed the last three weeks of the season with a stress fracture in his left fibula, did not start but had six points and five rebounds.
Suffolk coach Rich Wrase said Street will not start against Sullivan. "But," he said, "I'm glad he's back."
