Penny Postcard from Blue
Point...
The above post card was given to Jon Tilden by
Gene Horton, renowned local historian, when the
Blue Point Beautification Committee was formed
in 1997. The original members of the committee
were Gene Horton, Chris Cavanaugh, Kenny & Lisa
Goetz, Lenny Camarda, Davey Johnstone, Skip Pope
and Jon Tilden. The goal was to improve
the overall appearance of Blue Point Ave. which
had lost a number of trees over the years.
The results of the committee’s efforts can be
seen in the new trees, old fashioned street
lights, and brick work today.
It is interesting to note that the post card is
post marked August 21, 1912 - 100 years ago. I
hope they had a nice day, "going out
automobiling"!
